I am reposting this because we are getting a lot of phone calls for opossums getting hit by cars. The young ones are adolescents, out free for the first time, and they're not making good decisions. They dart out in the road or they try to make friends with your dog. Neither one of these activities has a positive outcome. I encourage you to have a rescue box in your car. We use a cardboard rescue box that you can fold up flat, and we put all the supplies in a big baggie. Actually, we put the box and the baggie in our wheelwell so it doesn't take up any space in our trunk. (This makes Bill happy)
The weather is turning frigid - there will be more wildlife out during the day when it's a little warmer. They are not sick . They are just hungry. Read the information about how to help them survive the winter. Thank you for your care and compassion for our wildlifeπŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ
PS - Northeners. .It's likely that the pouches will be empty. It's too late in the season.

We are truly grateful for your generous support, your love and your encouragement. πŸ’œπŸ’œ

We have many reasons to be thankful this year. YOU all top the list.πŸ’œπŸ’œ
Your encouragement, support and kindness has been inspirational. We were able to provide many educational programs and care for so many opossums; releasing many back to the wild. You made that possible. We could not do this work without you. THANK YOU from Ferncroft humans and opossums πŸ’œπŸ’œ

Tina Fary asked a GREAT QUESTION!
"with winter rolling in do opossums prefer straw or blankets to keep warm"?

ALWAYS USE STRAW. (Fresh) It is a great insulator and doesn't get moldy.
NEVER hay which holds moisture, freezes...and gets moldy. Same with blankets.
Both can cause bacterial infections and respiratory problems πŸ’œ\
