Savanna's Bananas Savanna Marco is my 18 month old niece that was born on January 12, 2011. As any aunt would say, she is the most beautiful baby in the world.

Savanna's Bananas is a family fundraising group called the "Heart Hero Team" that is raising money and collecting items for the It's My Heart Comfort Bag Drive to give away at the Cardiac ICU wing of Boston Children's Hospital. The only difference is that Savanna has a congenital heart defect known as HLHS. This is a rare defect where the left side of her heart is severally undeveloped. Because of

this, Savanna has already gone through two open heart surgeries by the age of 18 months, and is planning on another in the next year. This baby is the strongest little girl i have ever met in my entire life. She looks like another healthy baby. She is growing up, walking, and even talking. She loves climbing up stairs, swimming, and feeding the ducks. You wouldn't even be able to tell she has a heart defect just by looking at her. As you can imagine, our family has to spend a lot of time in the hospital waiting for Savanna to heal. Her mother, father, aunts, uncles, and especially her grandparents have spent a total of 75 days over night at the Boston Children's Hospital. This doesn't include her weekly doctor visits, and monthly shots. This is a tremendous amount of time for a baby and her family to spend in a hospital. Because of our experiences, we have known what its like to rush to the hospital unexpectedly. That could lead to us having no time to pack essentials, or gather our thoughts because all we care about is the baby's well being. That being said, its hard enough to be at the hospital awaiting news let alone without our own health essentials. Without time to think about ourselves, we could end up at the hospital for days without a toothbrush or deodorant because we couldn't risk the time to pack it. Our family has rushed to the hospital many times, and we know how much a simple deck of cards could help keep our minds busy. SO, as a family, we have decided to create a fundraising group called the "Heart Hero Team'. Our team is helping raise money and collect items for the 'It's My Heart Care Bags' to give out at Cardiac ICU wing of Boston Children's Hospital. With knowing the hardships of rushing to the hospital, we are excited to make these care packages for the children and families who have to unexpectedly stay the night, week, or even month. Our family is excited to help the others in need because of our past experiences. We are thrilled to spread Savanna's story and our ideas to as many people possible. Thank you. :)
