🚒 Future Firefighters in Action! 🚒

On Thursday, WVFD and welcomed 66 students in grades 8–12 for our annual Methacton Recruitment Day. Students had the opportunity to get hands-on experience with a variety of firefighting and rescue skills, including:

🚗 Vehicle Rescue – Learned the basics of rescuing occupants from damaged vehicles.

💦 Hoseline Operations – Got hands-on experience handling and operating a fire hose.

🚪 Forcible Entry – Practiced techniques used to gain access through locked or blocked doors.

🎈 Airbag Lifting Operations – Saw how rescue airbags are used to safely lift heavy objects during technical rescues.

🫁 Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Training – Wore and experienced the equipment firefighters use in hazardous environments.

🚒 Tower 53 Bucket Ride – Took a ride in the bucket of Tower 53 for a unique aerial perspective of the fireground.

🏃‍♂️ Firefighter Agility Challenge – Tested speed, coordination, and endurance through firefighter-inspired tasks.

🐕 K9 Demonstration – Watched a live demonstration showcasing how K9s assist with arson investigations and missing person searches.

Both departments welcome cadet members starting at age 14. These programs provide an incredible opportunity for students to serve their community, build leadership skills, earn service hours toward graduation, strengthen college applications, and gain valuable life experience. Many of the volunteers today are currently Methacton students, and got to show their fellow classmates firsthand the skills they have learned!

We look forward to seeing some of these students join the ranks of our departments in the coming weeks and begin their journey in the fire service!

This week for drill, WVFD was joined by . Topics included window bailout methods and ground ladder deployment. The department responded to 7 calls throughout the week.

Engine, Tanker, and Squad 83 responded to assist Skippack Fire Company on this fire yesterday.

🚨🚨Attention Methacton Parents🚨🚨

WVFD kept busy Thursday with 5 calls for service, attending a county press conference, and conducting our weekly drill night.

Calls included an odor of gas outside due to ongoing work by Texas Eastern Pipeline along Skippack Pike, a vehicle accident, EMS assist, reported building fire, and a fire alarm activation all within the township. The department has answered 11 calls for service so far this week.

Hosted at Montgomery County Fire Academy, the County Chiefs Association kicked off their new campaign to recruit 250 volunteer firefighters. Tanker 83 and a crew attended this event. More information can be found at: https://montcofirefighters.org/

For drill, our members practiced standpipe operations. Both connecting to internal building standpipes, and how to use our aerial on Ladder 83 to create a “flying standpipe”, which we use when we need to deploy hose-lines to elevated surfaces or roofs.

Ladder 83 with a crew of 7 assisted Jefferson Fire Company No. 1 at a dwelling fire just after midnight Saturday. The crew assisted with ground ladders, searches, and roof cuts.

For drill this week, WVFD members participated in a live burn training. Topics included hose-line advancement, Vent Enter Search, and using our thermal imaging cameras to monitor fire behavior.
