At 1511, YTC Fire Department responded to a vehicular acciden along I-82 near exit 11. At approximately 1530 the fire rapidly progressed onto the installation, triggering a full brush/wildland fire response and a request for mutual aid from Selah and West Valley Fire Departments. Teams are actively and aggressive attempting to contain the fire.

Update: At 1845, crews were able to contain the fire and have moved to mop up thanks to the support from our excellent mutual aid partners. Selah, East Valley (Yakima County Fire District 4), Yakima Fire Department, Yakima County Fire District 5, Naches Heights Fire Department, Naches Fire Department, Highland Fire Department, Gleed Fire Department, Hanford Fire Department, Kittitas County Fire Districts (multiple), Kittitas Valley Fire Rescue, Office of Emergency Management, and AMR.

On July 9th & 10th YTC MWR held the 1000 # Challenge. This consisted of doing 3 specific lifts and the weight totaling 1,000 pounds. This year we had 6 participants. SSG Timothy Goolsby of USAAAD took the top place with a lift of 1,315 pounds. The other 5 participants and their total weights were: CW3 Patrick Rickard with 1100 pounds, SSG Isaiah Toone with 1075 pounds, SGT Robert Gonzales at 1065 pounds, SGT Michael Banzet & MAJ Paul Weber at 1025 pounds. All Participants will have their name and the weight to include individual lifts put on a name plate and attached to a plaque that is hung in the Aaron Blanchard Fitness Center.

The Car Show will be one of the multiple features going on during the Summerfest Event. Entry to compete in this fun filled car show is free, there will be 5 categories at judging. See registration for details. Come for the Car Show, stay for the rest of the event!
Disclaimer:
Festival goers 16-years-old and older will need a photo ID for entry. Since YTC is a Department of Defense military installation, federal and military police will be checking IDs at the entrance. Anyone with felony records or warrants are not allowed onto the base at any time. Also, attendees cannot bring contraband, drugs, alcohol, or weapons (regardless of a concealed carry permit) onto a military installation. Personal ice chests are also prohibited.

This Independence Day we reflect on the values upheld by our founding fathers. The Second Continental Congress voted on July 2, 1776, to declare independence from Britain, and adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later. Since then, July 4th has been celebrated as our nation's birthday. We wish everyone a safe and happy Independence Day.

Columbia Fire Update: we have two UH-60 Blackhawks running aerial fire suppression, two dozers strengthening fire breaks (as well as creating new ones), along with multiple ground crews. All units are working in sync to box the fire in and to stop progression.

The YTC Morale Welfare and Recreation department is sponsoring a 1,000-Pound Challenge on July 9th & 10th. The Challenge combines a series of weight lifts in one workout, including the Romanian deadlift, bench press, and squat. Individuals’ best lifts will be combined to reach the goal of at least 1,000 pounds for men and at least 700 pounds for women. Winners in the male and female categories will be those with the highest amount of accumulated pounds, but everyone who achieves the 1,000-Pound Challenge will be recognized with their name on the plaque that hangs in the gym. Registrations are being taken at the Blanchard Fitness Center and are open to anyone with access to YTC.

Units on YTC will be conducting live fire exercises from June 21st to June 22nd. Noise from the training may be louder than usual. This is routine training conducted periodically to maintain a high level of readiness for the military personnel involved. We appreciate the support and understanding of the residents and community in the surrounding areas during this training.
