Lincoln Engine Company No. 9 The Lincoln Fire Company has been serving the citizens of York City since 1942

The Lincoln Fire Company was founded in June of 1942 and by October of that year was fully incorporated into the York City Fire Department. Commonly referred to as Station 9, The Lincoln, or The Lincoln Engine Company, the station is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by 2 career firefighters per shift. Located at 800 Roosevelt Ave, Engine 9 provides fire protection for the avenues neighborho

od, Fireside, Route 30, Colony Park, HACC York Campus, as well as the rest of York City. We also provide mutual aid to our county partners in Manchester, West Manchester, West York, and Dover. Beginning in January of 2023, Station 9 will increase its staffing to two firefighters and 1 lieutenant per shift.

It is with deep regrets and great sorrow that the we announce the death of Retired Chief David Michaels. Chief Michaels was born in September 14, 1967 in Sunbury PA.

Chief Michaels was hired by the department as a firefighter in July of 1990. He received a letter of commendation for off-duty actions in 1998 and was promoted to Lieutenant on January 7th, 2000. He was named Firefighter of the Year in 2006 and received another letter of commendation from the department in 2007 for the rescue of a civilian from a fire on N. Penn Street. Michaels was promoted to Assistant Chief in October of 2008 and became Deputy Chief in May of 2010. He was appointed Chief of City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services on April 29th, 2012. He later went on to work for Wellspan Health as the director of the Disaster Response Team, and then Gladfelter Insurance.

Chief Michaels is survived by his wife Barb, two daughters Holly and Amelia, and 5 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangement will be posted at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, it was Chief Michaels wish that donations be made to the Fuel Their Fire Scholarship fund.

Dave knew how much you all loved and respected him. The department and the city of York have always meant so much to him. You were his brother, his family, and his life. He is now with his brothers on the other side.
