As our first year comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect, and to say thank you!

Guardian Communications launched with a clear purpose, to provide strategic, steady guidance during critical moments. Year one was about building the foundation the right way: fostering relationships, doing the work, showing up prepared, and staying true to our values when the pressure is on.

We’re heading into the new year with momentum and intention! We are ready to take on bigger challenges, tougher conversations, and the moments that demand real leadership.

Happy holidays to you and yours. Stay safe, and here’s to a new year filled with purpose, progress, and possibility!

🍁 Happy Thanksgiving 🍁

A client sent us this photo, and it’s a simple reminder of what we’re most thankful for: trust, partnership, and the relationships built along the way.

To our clients, partners, and the agencies who continue to trust us with your stories and your toughest moments, thank you. Every training, every consultation, every late-night call, and every opportunity to help strengthen your communication has been an honor.

Your belief in our work allows us to do what we do best: deliver strategic solutions for critical moments, and build stronger, steadier connections in the communities you serve.

We are profoundly grateful for the relationships we’ve built this year and the meaningful work we’ve been entrusted with.

Wishing you a safe, peaceful, and connected Thanksgiving!

Sarah and Matt

Today and every day, we pause in gratitude for the men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform with courage, integrity, and sacrifice.

At Guardian Communications, we are proud to stand alongside those who serve, past and present, protecting communities, preserving freedom, and embodying the values we hold dear: service, strength, and commitment in critical moments.

Thank you for your service and your example.

This one hits home for communicators: posting letterhead screenshots on social isn’t communication, it’s clutter.

If the message matters, make it easy to read.

🚨 Sundays with the CEO 🚨

This week, Matt tackles a crucial but often-overlooked conversation: “Turning off comments doesn’t stop criticism. It stops communication.” In today’s environment, blocking feedback doesn’t resolve issues, it silences the dialogue that builds trust.

This is a must-read for leaders in public safety, crisis comms, and anyone who values integrity over optics.

🔄 Looking Back on a Powerful Week

Last week, Matt and Sarah had the opportunity to work side by side, in person, to lead an intensive, scenario-based crisis communication training.

What stood out most? The energy, interaction, and commitment of the participants. This team didn’t just show up, they leaned in, asked tough questions, tackled real-world challenges, and strengthened their collaboration under pressure.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to guide such a sharp and engaged group. Thanks for trusting Guardian Communications to help you build strategic solutions for critical moments!

From Zoom ➡️ to the Same Room

This week, Matt Fagiana and Sarah Connolly will finally be in the same place at the same time, trading Google Docs for dry erase boards, and Teams for real teamwork!

While we typically work remote, we’re excited to collaborate in person as we help a dedicated team sharpen their crisis communication skills and strengthen cross-functional collaboration.

When strategy meets experience (and coffee happens face to face), that’s where the real magic happens. Let’s get to work!

➡️ Introducing: Sundays with the CEO ⬅️
Starting today, Guardian Communications is launching a monthly article - Sundays with the CEO.

On the first Sunday of each month, Matt Fagiana will share lessons from the field, insights from the front lines of crisis communication, and no-nonsense truths about leading with clarity in today’s chaotic information environment.

This isn’t about fluff. It’s about sharpening the edge, for public safety professionals, executives, and communicators who understand that leadership starts with how we show up, speak up, and serve.

📌 Expect practical takeaways.
📌 Expect old-school values with forward-thinking strategy.
📌 Expect candor.

Here’s to building stronger agencies, better messaging, and more confident leaders, one Sunday at a time.
_______

In this week’s article, Matt breaks down why the PIO role is not optional, it’s strategic, operational, and essential to your agency’s survival in today’s media-driven environment.

Too many chiefs are still relying on outdated models, assigning media duties “when needed,” or giving it to someone “on the side.” That’s a liability, not a plan.

This isn’t just about news releases. It’s about trust. It’s about legitimacy. It’s about leading the narrative before someone else does it for you.

👊 Read the full piece below, 🔗 is in the comments.

Let’s get serious about communication. The future of your agency depends on it.
