SISTER ISLANDS PROGRAMME UNIT
BACKGROUND
As part of the 1999 Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) initiative, a group called the Young Professionals was tasked with assessing the state of the three major Sister Islands: Anegada, Virgin Gorda and Jost Van D**e. The activity was aptly called the “Sister Islands Project.” The work of the Young Professionals resulted in the establishment of a
Sister Islands Programme and Coordinator. The Sister Islands Programme Unit is a coordinating body which monitors and reports on Government and other activities on the Sister Islands and makes recommendations for improvements. SCOPE
The Sister Islands Programme covers the following:

SISTER ISLANDS PROGRAMME COORDINATOR:
• Serves as itinerant Administrator for the Sister Islands and as a Liaison Officer between the Office of the Deputy Governor and District Officers to ensure efficient and effective communication and coordination of activities;
• Serves as a Commissioner of Oaths for the Sister Islands;
• Makes recommendations for programs and projects to improve the delivery of services to the Sister Islands to ensure an acceptable standard of living;
• Coordinates activities with Ministries and outside agencies to ensure effective communication;
• Serves as a Project Coordinator for Capital Projects for the Governor’s Group;
• Monitors, promotes, and facilitates the ex*****on of projects designed to bring about sustained improvement in the quality and delivery of Government services on the Sister Islands;
• Supervises the work of District Officers assigned to Sister Islands in order to monitor compliance with laws, policies, rules, and regulations;
DISTRICT OFFICERS:
• Carry out and oversee the performance of official duties on the Sister Islands in an efficient and competent manner to ensure that departmental objectives are met;
• Serve as a focal point for all official enquiries on the island in order to facilitate effective communication and flow of information;
• Manage the Government Administration Building facilities;
• Perform duties related to timely and adequate assistance provided in the Zone/Community prior to, during and after a disaster situation;
