Human resource capacity development partnership between Vietnam and Australia

Aus4Skills is a ten-year program supporting Vietnam in sectors important to the country’s socio-economic development and stability through: implementing Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS) and alumni programs; strengthening Vietnam’s vocational education and training (VET) sector; and supporting the development of a capable public service, including advancing women in leadership, through the Vietnam Australia Centre.

Một tuần đầy ý nghĩa đối với quan hệ Việt Nam – Australia!

Một dấu mốc quan trọng là việc trao đổi Thỏa thuận Bổ sung Giai đoạn 2 của Trung tâm Việt Úc (VAC) giữa Thứ trưởng Bộ Ngoại giao và Thương mại Australia Michelle Chan và Phó Giáo sư, Tiến sĩ Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, Phó Giám đốc Học viện Chính trị quốc gia Hồ Chí Minh.

Thỏa thuận này đánh dấu sự khởi đầu cho giai đoạn tiếp theo của VAC từ năm 2027 đến năm 2035, tăng cường hợp tác trong lĩnh vực lãnh đạo, quản trị và hoạch định chính sách, đồng thời tiếp tục củng cố Quan hệ Đối tác Chiến lược Toàn diện Việt Nam - Australia bền chặt và lâu dài.

It’s been a big week for the Australia-Vietnam relationship.

A significant milestone was the exchange of the Vietnam Australia Centre Phase 2 Subsidiary Arrangement by Australia's Deputy Secretary Michelle Chan and Ho Chi Minh Academy Vice President, Associate Professor Dr Nguyen Manh Hung.

This paves the way for a new phase of cooperation from 2027 to 2035, deepening collaboration in leadership, governance and policy partnerships, and reinforcing the enduring Australia-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Giáo dục là một trong những lĩnh vực hợp tác chặt chẽ nhất giữa Australia và Việt Nam.

Trong Tuyên bố chung làm sâu sắc Quan hệ Đối tác Chiến lược Toàn diện, Australia và Việt Nam nhất trí tăng cường hợp tác trong nhiều lĩnh vực từ giáo dục, thương mại đến đổi mới.

Tại cuộc gặp song phương với Bộ trưởng Giáo dục Australia Jason Clare, Bộ trưởng Giáo dục và Đào tạo Việt Nam Hoàng Minh Sơn cảm ơn hỗ trợ của Australia trong các chương trình phát triển, dự án hợp tác về giáo dục, trong đó có chương trình Aus4Skills cho các hợp phần về giáo dục đại học và giáo dục nghề nghiệp.

Bản ghi nhớ hợp tác giữa Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo Việt Nam và Bộ Việc làm và Quan hệ lao động Australia ưu tiên hợp tác giữa hai bên về chính sách, dữ liệu và chuyên môn trong hệ thống giáo dục nghề nghiệp (GDNN) nhằm hỗ trợ Việt Nam hướng tới một hệ thống GDNN gắn kết với sự tham gia của doanh nghiệp.

Education remains one of the strongest links between Australia and Vietnam.

In a Joint Statement on Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Australia and Vietnam have agreed to strengthen cooperation across education, trade and innovation.

Speaking at a meeting with Australian Minister for Education Jason Clare, Vietnamese Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son lauded Australia’s support for Vietnam via development programs in education, including support for higher education and vocational education and training via Aus4Skills.

A new Memorandum of Understanding between Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training and Australia’s Department of Employment and Workplace Relations prioritise cooperation in vocational education and training (VET) system policies, data, and expertise to support Vietnam’s transition towards an industry-informed VET system.

Thủ tướng Anthony Albanese và Tổng Bí thư, Chủ tịch nước Tô Lâm đã nhất trí làm sâu sắc hơn nữa hợp tác trong khuôn khổ Quan hệ Đối tác Chiến lược Toàn diện Australia - Việt Nam.

Trong Tuyên bố chung, hai nhà lãnh đạo cam kết tăng cường hợp tác trên cả sáu trụ cột của Quan hệ Đối tác Chiến lược Toàn diện.

Hai nhà lãnh đạo nhất trí tăng cường hợp tác trong giáo dục đại học, giáo dục nghề nghiệp, nghiên cứu chung, trao đổi sinh viên và học thuật, và phát triển chuyên môn. Việt Nam ghi nhận đóng góp của chương trình Aus4Skills trong 10 năm qua đối với công tác phát triển nguồn nhân lực và trao đổi tri thức cũng như hoan nghênh Australia tiếp tục đầu tư 9 năm tới trong lĩnh vực này (2026-2035).

In a joint statement, leaders committed to strengthening cooperation across the six pillars of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in higher education, vocational education and training, joint research, student and academic exchanges, and professional development. Viet Nam recognises the valuable contribution of Aus4Skills over the past 10 years to human resource development and knowledge exchange, and welcomes a further 9-year investment (2026-2035).

NÂNG CAO SỨC KHỎE TINH THẦN CHO HỌC SINH, SINH VIÊN / PEER SUPPORT INITIATIVE PROMOTES STUDENT WELLBEING [English below]

Sức khỏe tinh thần vẫn là thử thách có ảnh hưởng tới gần 15 triệu người ở Việt Nam. Trong đó người trẻ đối diện với áp lực ngày càng tăng, mà trợ giúp ngay tại trường học thì còn hạn chế. Vấn đề này đã thôi thúc một cựu sinh Australia triển khai dự án "Wellbeing Circle" - thành lập các nhóm hỗ trợ sức khỏe tinh thần do học sinh tự dẫn dắt, khuyến khích các em hỗ trợ lẫn nhau và nâng cao hiểu biết về cảm xúc, xã hội.

Trong năm đầu tiên (2024-2025), sáng kiến này đã mang lại tác động hữu hình: 215 học sinh tham gia trực tiếp, hơn 410 học sinh được tiếp cận thông qua các buổi hội thảo tại trường, và giáo viên cũng được nâng cao kỹ năng để hỗ trợ sức khỏe tinh thần của học sinh. Nhiều em sau khi tham gia đã chia sẻ rằng mình nhận thức tốt hơn về bản thân, điều chỉnh cảm xúc, kết nối gần gũi hơn với những người xung quanh.

Dự án cũng đã tập huấn cho các tình nguyện viên và giáo viên, kiến tạo sự thay đổi lâu dài: Một số trường tham gia dự án hiện đang tích hợp các hoạt động về sức khỏe tinh thần vào chương trình giảng dạy. Thông qua những không gian an toàn và học sinh được tự chủ trong kết nối và phát triển, dự án đã đóng góp vào xây dựng sức bền cho thế hệ trẻ tương lai của Việt Nam.

Drawing on lessons from Australia’s education system, one alumna is helping Vietnamese students build the emotional skills and peer networks they need to thrive.

Mental health challenges affect nearly 15 million people in Vietnam, with young people facing rising pressure and limited support in schools. In response, the alumna led a project called "Wellbeing Circle" to establish student-led wellbeing circles that promote peer support and social-emotional learning.

In the first year (2024-2025), this initiative delivered tangible impact: 215 students directly engaged, over 410 reached through school workshops, and teachers empowered to champion student wellbeing. Participants report improved self-awareness, emotional regulation and stronger relationships.

The project has also trained volunteers, engaged teachers, and sparked lasting change: some schools are now embedding wellbeing activities into their programs.

By creating safe, student-led spaces to connect and grow, this alumni-led effort is helping shape a more resilient future for Vietnam’s youth.

Australia is proud to partner with Vietnam in advancing its priorities on gender equality and education reform.

Aus4Skills, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training, has equipped over 100 lecturers and managers from 29 pedagogical universities to embed gender-responsive approaches into STEM teaching methods and curriculum design.
