🤝 RTI UNIT PARTICIPATES IN GOVERNANCE WORKSHOP

The Right to Information (RTI) Unit participated in Validation Workshop for the National Integrity and Anti-Corruption Policy (NIACP).

During the workshop, the RTI Unit stressed the importance of having an Information Commissioner appointed in Vanuatu to strengthen independent oversight and support the effective implementation of the Right to Information framework.

An Information Commissioner plays an important role in ensuring that citizens can exercise their right to access information and that public authorities remain transparent and accountable.

Strengthening access to information is essential for promoting transparency, accountability, good governance and public trust.

This important milestone reflects a strong commitment to improving digital records management, preserving institutional memory, and strengthening transparency and access to information.

Disclosure of Information is a cornerstone of transparency and good governance.

Under the Right to Information Act, Government agencies and relevant private entities are required to proactively publish key information about their organisation, services, policies, finances, decision-making processes, and more—making it easier for everyone to access information without having to submit a request.

Proactive disclosure strengthens transparency, accountability, and public trust while empowering citizens to stay informed.
