A Message from the Vanuatu National Hospital

We are aware of a concern raised on social media regarding the conduct of a staff member in our maternity and Neonatal intensive care unit. We take this matter seriously.

Every patient at VNH and every mother and newborn in our care deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. That is the standard we hold ourselves to, and we acknowledge when that standard is questioned.

We have commenced an internal review into this incident. We will not prejudge the outcome, but we will ensure the process is thorough and fair to the family concerned, and to all staff involved.

We encourage the family to contact our VNH Management team directly so we can address their concerns in a more personal and appropriate setting.

We remain committed to providing the best care possible to all patients and families who come through our doors.

Launch of Healthcare Vanuatu Limited |

The Government of the Republic of Vanuatu, together with the Vanuatu National Provident Fund (VNPF) and Medican Service Company Ltd of New Zealand, has officially launched Healthcare Vanuatu Limited (HVL)—a landmark initiative designed to transform access to quality healthcare in Vanuatu.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Johnny Koanapo, officiated the launch, emphasizing that HVL represents more than the establishment of a new clinic. It is the beginning of a new chapter in national development, where responsible investment, sound governance, and social responsibility converge to improve the wellbeing of our people.

For many years, families in Vanuatu have faced the hardship of traveling overseas for specialized medical treatment, often at great financial cost and emotional strain. HVL has been strategically established to address this challenge by improving referral pathways, strengthening diagnostic services, and progressively building healthcare capacity here at home.

Phase One introduces improved diagnostics, specialist consultations, and coordinated referral pathways. Future phases will expand services to include cancer chemotherapy, intensive care units, advanced cardiology, and ultimately a multi-specialty hospital in Port Vila. HVL is expected to be the first private clinic in the Pacific to provide private chemotherapy services with dedicated oncology support.

This initiative is fully aligned with VNPF’s strategic investment objectives and the National Sustainable Development Plan 2016–2030, particularly the Society Pillar – Goal 3: ensuring a healthy and productive population through accessible, affordable, and quality health services for all.

The Government commended the leadership of VNPF and acknowledged Mr. Deepak Singh and his team from Medican for their expertise in managing the clinic. Their role is central to ensuring services are delivered with quality, efficiency, and care, while introducing international standards and operational excellence to Vanuatu’s health sector.

As HVL grows, it is anticipated to attract patients from neighboring countries, stimulate local economic sectors, and reduce reliance on overseas medical treatment.

“May Healthcare Vanuatu Limited stand as a symbol of progress, partnership, and commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for all people of Vanuatu.”
