Led by the Malindi Municipality administrator, Mr Emmanuel Kalu, we were highly privileged to have a consultative meeting with consultants from GIZ at our offices.

The main objective of the meeting was to develop a feasibility Study of the Sandpaper to Kibokoni road, based on, evaluating the current condition of the road, access the current and future on climate risks, establishing preliminary requirements and develop conceptional designs, conduct a cost benefit analysis and lastly engaging stakeholders and the community.

We later went ahead and inspected the road and had a brief engagement with some members of the community with the aim of getting more information from the ground.

It is our hope that we will work together and contribute to sustainable community development by fulfilling His Excellency the governor Gedion Mung’aro’s vision of making a positive difference in Kilifi County.

In line with our commitment to ensure a clean and healthy environment for all, we have managed to clean the illegal dumping site at Sunpark area opposite Tawheed Girls Secondary School.

The illegal waste disposal site has been an eyesore and also posing environmental and health hazards to the community around. As a municipality, we are collectively engaging all relevant stakeholders and the community to ensure that we keep our environment clean and encourage the public to desist from littering, as we find a solid solution to the issue. A clean environment is a collective responsibility.

Today, the leadership of Malindi Municipality convened a crucial staff engagement meeting at the Municipality Chambers. The session brought together the dedicated staff of the Municipality for an open and interactive dialogue aimed at strengthening teamwork and addressing key welfare concerns.

The primary objective of the meeting was to foster a closer working relationship by getting to know one another better and creating a platform where staff could freely share their views. Key issues discussed included salary concerns, the availability of cleaning equipment, and the need for timely promotions—all of which are essential in motivating staff to deliver high-quality services to the residents of Malindi.

The presence of the Municipal Manager, Madam Techler Dadu, and the Municipality Administrator, Mr. Emmanuel Kalu, underscored the administration’s commitment to staff welfare. Their participation reflected the leadership’s unified approach to identifying challenges and collaboratively working towards sustainable solutions.

As a Municipality, we remain committed to fostering a supportive working environment and upholding the spirit of teamwork and service delivery excellence for the benefit of all in Malindi.

Yesterday, we hosted a team from the University of Nairobi's Institute for Development Studies undertaking a study on Smart Urban Transport within Malindi Municipality.

This is part of various transportation studies the Institute is taking in collaboration with County Governments and urban boards in selected urban areas, Malindi Municipality being one of them.

The dialogue involved an interactive session and field visit to map out progress of smart urban transport initiatives within the Municipality. Key focus was on issues of urban mobility, provision of NMT infrastructure, intermodal connectivity, and technology adoption and automation and how all these contribute to sustainable urban development.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

We were privileged to celebrate the World Environment Day in a collective action as we came together with our stakeholders in a sensitization forum and discovering solutions to save our environment from plastic pollution, at Takaye Social Hall.

The environment and us humans have a long history of dependency, from obtaining food, water, shelter, and essential services like climate regulation and waste management. However, we as humans may have forgotten the love our environment is giving us, and the environment we have today is not the same as before.

With rising problems regarding environment diversity, it's time to realize and re-discover the importance of the environment in our lives and remind people that it is our forever friend and saviour and cleaning it is one of our defence to prevent solid waste from causing harm to it.

As Malindi Municipality, we arge all the people to enhance a clean, safe, and healthy environment. Let us all create a change by Ending Plastic Pollution.

In attendance was Forum CIV, Kwacha Africa, Kilifi Citizen Forum, Haki Africa, Eco World, KWS, and Mawasco, among others.

One of the key mandates of the Municipality of Malindi is to ensure a clean and conducive environment that fosters healthy living.

As a remedy to manage the Mayungu dumping site, shovelling activity is ongoing at the site and landfills where the waste is compacted in several large holes that are within the dumping site. This will reduce the practice of open dumping and will help in maintaining a more environmentally friendly waste system.

Let us all work in cooperation to make Malindi Municipality the cleanest urban area.
