إحتفال عيد القديسة الشهيدة البربارة.
تعلن لجنة سيدات سوق الغرب بالتعاون مع فوج الكشافة عن لقاء يوم السبت في 3 كانون الاول الساعة الخامسة مساء في مبنى البلدية الطابق الاول.
اولا، جولة للاولاد باللباس التنكري على احياء وبيوت الضيعة واحساس الجميع برونق العيد.ابتداء من الساعة الثالثة بعد الظهر.
ثانيا.وصول جميع الاولاد مع الأهل الى مينى البلدية الطابق الاول ،الساعة الخامسة.
ا.شرح قصة الشهيدة القديسة من قبل الاب فيليب سعيد
ب.سوف يتم السحب بالقرعة للملك والملكة من الأولاد.
ث.يلي إحتفال العيد توزيع هدايا على جميع الاولاد الموجودة وضيافة العيد .مع اغاني العيد.
اكيد حضوركم يشرفنا ونأمل ان يتكرر هذا الاحتفال سنويًا.وكل عام وأنتم بخير.

A 1912 medical report sent from a Dr Ibrahim Saleeby to Alexandria, Egypt. It is ironically sealed by Sheikh Solh al Qmattie and Mukhtar Bmakkine...Very rare...

Here is an official contract to buy a qintar of pure olive oil from Abu Daher in Bchamoun to a Mr Shepherd (an American), the manager of Souk El Gharb restaurant, for 100 Othmanli liras. It is dated October 1918.

The post office in Soul El Gharb was established in 1893. The first known letter on record was from 1897 to a Mr Khairallah in Chicago. Very very rare

Here is the first batch for Hotel Sursock mostly from 1930’s.The hotel was also known as Hotel Rowayssat before it became Sursock. There is a cover from 1939 which was sent from the hotel to Tel Aviv on 12 sept 1939 and was returned because WW2 started.

This is the Hajjar family committee from 1937. The bylaws were sent to Dr. Tawfik Hajjar . He studied Medicine in France and practiced in Cairo. He used to spend the summers in Hotel Hajjar.

من شخصيات سوق الغرب سامية بارودي كريمة مراد بك بارودي التي فازت باكثر من مسابقة للجمال.
ورد في صحيفة "المعرض" سنة ١٩٣٥ ان سامية اشتركت في مسابقة صوفر ففازت بلقب "ملكة جمال لبنان و سوريا" و كانت قد فازت في السابق بملكة جمال سوق الغرب و قد سافرت الى بروكسيل للاشتراك في مباراة "ملكة جمال العالم"
بلدة انتجت هل جمال لن تذبل ابدا و بجهودكم!
عم نلاقي صعوبة في ايجاد صورة لسامية يللي في يساعد يا ريت!

هذا النص موجه ليس فقط لاهالى سوق الغرب في الاغتراب،بل الى كل شخص إلو قصة او ذكرى بسوق الغرب :لبنانيين،عرب و اجانب.
عانت سوق الغرب بما فيه الكفاية خلال الحرب اللبنانية و اليوم الحرب من نوع ثاني،المقاومة للبقاء .

ممنوع انو سوق الغرب تُفرغ من سكانها و يتغير نسيجها الاجتماعي كرمال
الخبز و الدواء و الكهرباء.

اليوم المشكل خطير ولازم نساعد بعض.

-قامت اللجنة بمسح للعائلات المحتاجة كي لا تضطر الى الهجرة بسبب مبالغ بسيطة نسبيا للتعليم والتدفئة و الغذاء و الدواء.

-قامت اللجنة بدراسة تقنية عن كيفية إستفادة البلدة من الطاقة الشمسية لتوليد الكهرباء وإتضح أن الكلفة ستكون 750000 دولار، واللجنة بصدد تقديمها الى الجهات المانحة وقد نحتاج الى خبرتكم و مساعدتكم ايضا.

أملنا فيكن كبير.

سوق الغرب مصيف الملوك و بلدة المتفوقين و المتعلمين بحاجة الى "نجاحكم " يحافظ عليها و يرجعها احسن مما كانت ،هيدا مش مستحيل ،هيدا ممكن جداً.

نٰحلمْ بعودتكم ليس فقط بمُساعدتكم.

This message is not intended only for those citizens of Souk el Gharb who are resident overseas, but to everyone with a story or a memory of Souk el Gharb, be it Lebanese, Arab, or foreign

Souk el Gharb suffered greatly during the Civil War, but today we are struggling for our very survival
It is not permitted that Souk el Gharb empties of its original residents and that its social fabric changes for want of bread, medicine, and electricity
The situation now is critical and we need your help
The committee has surveyed families in need which may be forced to immigrate if some simple and inexpensive assistance is not provided
These people are extremely needy
The committee has also had a study completed so that the town can benefit from solar power to produce at least part of its electricity
The study, which is attached, indicates a cost of $750.000 for the project. The committee is now in the process of making presentations to donor authorities and we need your expertise and assistance in this respect
Souk el Gharb, the summer resort of kings and a town of exceptionally highly educated and highly accomplished people, “needs your success” so that it can be preserved and returned to its earlier glory. This is not impossible. In fact, it is very possible
