In a significant display of support for religious institutions, Governor Sasindran Muthuvel presented a cheque of K100,000 yesterday to aid in the construction of the Lambe Catholic Church in Lambe Village, W7 of Bali Witu LLG. The funding, sourced from the internal development funds of the West New Britain Provincial Government (WNBPG), will significantly contribute to the completion of the church building for the W7 community.

The governor expressed his administration's commitment to partnering with churches and commended their efforts in providing spiritual support to the people. The collaboration between the WNBPG and various churches in the region has proven to be fruitful, enabling the government to address the spiritual needs of the community effectively.

The presentation of K100,000 demonstrates the WNBPG's dedication to supporting the construction of religious structures, as they recognize the vital role churches play in fostering spiritual well-being and community cohesion. This funding will aid in completing the Lambe Catholic Church, providing a place of worship and solace for the W7 community.

Governor Muthuvel emphasized the importance of a strong partnership between the government and churches in promoting the overall development of the province. He expressed his gratitude towards the churches for their unwavering commitment to supporting the spiritual needs of the people.

The WNBPG's decision to allocate internal development funds towards the construction of the Lambe Catholic Church showcases their belief in investing in the spiritual growth and well-being of the community. National Government Commends International Schools for 48 Years of Excellence in PNG Education

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, September 15, 2023 - Prime Minister Hon. James Marape on Thursday, September 14, 2023, expressed heartfelt appreciation to international schools for their unwavering commitment to educating the nation's citizens since gaining independence 48 years ago.

International schools have played a pivotal role in providing our children with a quality education enriched with moral and ethical values that align with global standards. Prime Minister Marape reiterated this sentiment during the 48th Independence Anniversary celebration held at Koroboro International School in Port Moresby.

Under the theme, 'Our Country; Many Cultures, Embrace Diversity,' the event beautifully symbolised the unity of our diverse nation, where numerous cultures come together to celebrate as one people, one nation – Papua New Guinea.

Koroboro International School stands as a shining example among the many educational institutions that have set a high standard for delivering quality education founded on moral principles and values to our children. Prime Minister Marape extended his gratitude to the school, a proud member of the International Education Agency (IEA), for its dedicated service to the children of PNG.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Marape also acknowledged the sacrifices made by parents who invest their hard-earned resources in providing their children with access to schools like Koroboro International School. He hinted at a potential tax relief initiative for parents sending their children to IEA schools, aligning with the government's commitment to leaving 'No Child Behind.'

It is important to note that our party operates within the framework of administrative policies and with the guidance of our party leader, Hon. James Marape, who currently serves as the Prime Minister. The suggestion that our party is involved in any illegal activities or that there is a power struggle within our ranks is baseless.

Regarding the alleged arrest warrant for Prime Minister Marape, it is important to clarify that no credible sources have provided any concrete evidence to support this claim. The incident at Jackson's airport, where there was a commotion between bodyguards and Fraud Squad officers is again FALSE

Furthermore, the assertion that a new individual within the Pangu Party is calling the shots is purely speculative. Without reliable sources or concrete evidence, it is irresponsible to make assumptions about the leadership dynamics within our party. We urge caution in spreading unverified information that may damage the reputation of our party and its members.

Port Moresby, August 17, 2023 - Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has emphatically stated that corruption within the public service will no longer be tolerated. The occasion took place today in Port Moresby, where the Prime Minister launched the groundbreaking Anti-Fraud Anti-Corruption and Whistleblower Policy of the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council. This policy is set to establish a framework for other Government departments and agencies in their collective fight against the rampant issue of corruption.

In attendance were key figures including Chief Secretary Ivan Pomaleu, Police Commissioner David Manning, representatives from the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), and departmental staff.

Prime Minister Marape, highlighting the grave impact of corruption on Papua New Guinea's development, asserted, "Corruption is not solely a social concern, but a significant economic issue as well."

He expressed gratitude towards Chief Secretary Pomaleu for leading the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council in pioneering this critical anti-corruption initiative.

Prime Marape's determination to safeguard the nation's resources from exploitation is evident in his resolve: "Papua New Guinea must no longer tolerate corruption.”

Prime Minister Marape underscored the direct connection between corruption and the economy, stating, "Our relentless efforts to harness our resources effectively will remain futile if our financial integrity is compromised."

He further illustrated that even a mere 10 percent loss due to corruption, equivalent to K2.4 billion from the K24 billion 2023 Budget, can yield staggering consequences.

"Losing K2.5 billion to corruption is a luxury our country cannot afford. This sum could fund provincial hospitals and infrastructural development that the nation direly needs."

The Prime Minister traced the establishment of the ICAC back to his tenure, emphasising its significance: "ICAC's enactment in November 2020 was a pivotal step towards shaping our nation's future." He urged collective responsibility, urging all citizens to uphold integrity and report corruption cases promptly.

"Those who perceive ICAC and the Anti-Fraud Anti-Corruption and Whistleblower Policy as threats are those with hidden agendas," Prime Minister Marape asserted.

He called upon the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council, along with all government bodies and the public, to engage proactively in exposing corruption.

Prime Minister Marape's vision extends to the empowerment of judiciary bodies and law enforcement agencies, revealing a 40 percent increase in the 2023 Budget allocation to the Law and Justice Sector.

He affirms, "We are channeling our resources into initiatives that promote transparency and accountability."

PM MARAPE ANNOUNCES FRENCH PRESIDENT EMMANUEL MACRON'S VISIT TO PNG ON JULY 28

PORT MORESBY, JULY 17, 2023 - Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. James Marape, announced today that the President of France, H.E. Emmanuel Macron, will undertake a one-day visit to Papua New Guinea on Friday, July 28, 2023.

Prime Minister Marape extended the invitation to President Macron during a meeting held in Port Moresby on June 5, 2023, with Mr. Walid Fouque, Special Advisor for Asia and the Pacific to President Macron.

President Macron and Prime Minister Marape have previously met on the sidelines of the One Forest Summit in Gabon, Central Africa, in March of this year, as well as during APEC 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand, where President Macron attended as an invited guest.

President Macron is scheduled to arrive in Port Moresby at 11am on Friday, July 28, 2023, and depart at 5pm on the same day. The itinerary for the visit includes a courtesy call on Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae, a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Marape, followed by a bilateral meeting and the signing of various agreements.

Prime Minister Marape emphasised the significance of President Macron's visit in strengthening bilateral relations between France and Papua New Guinea.

"Under my leadership, France and PNG have been actively enhancing our bilateral relationship, along with other nations," said Prime Minister Marape.

"I appreciate President Macron's commitment, as demonstrated by his decision to visit PNG and engage in discussions on matters of mutual interest between our countries."

President Macron's visit comes on the eve of the final investment decision (FID) by French super-major TotalEnergies on the Papua LNG Project, demonstrating France's increased investment in Papua New Guinea. TotalEnergies is also involved in downstream processing of natural resources such as forests.

"In the midst of the evolving geopolitical landscape in the region, Papua New Guinea serves as 'neutral ground,' and I will urge France to consider PNG's strategic position amidst the changing regional dynamics," Prime Minister Marape added.

"The visit of President Macron to PNG will further solidify the growing cooperation and shared goals between our two nations, particularly in the areas of forest conservation, French investments in PNG such as TotalEnergies, mobilising resources to support small Pacific Island countries and communities, and other relevant matters."

AUTHORITY TO TAKE STADIUM, GARDEN

The Botanical Garden and the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium are two of the facilities that the Lae City Authority wants to take ownership of.

Lae MP and Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso is currently having dialogue with the Forest Minister and the Higher Education and Sports Minister to have those facilities ownership transferred to the LCA to manage and develop.

Mr Rosso said this on Saturday during the Rosso Cup Mountain Bike Race launching in Lae.

He said the botanical garden is an ideal spot that can be developed for the people of Lae to enjoy in leisure and other activities so to move it one step further.

LCA is looking forward to take over the management and develop it for the use of city residents.

"I have started the conversation with the Forest Minister and he has assured me that in the next few weeks that we should be able to come to an agreement on we can take over the management - so that we can start putting money into it's development." Mr Rosso said.

He said the garden is a key part of Lae located in the heart of the city so it is in the best interest of LCA to own it.

Mr Rosso said the Sir Ignatius Kilage stadium is another facility that is being discussed to change ownership to LCA.

"The facilities have been rundown not through anyone's fault but through lack of funding and such but because it sits in the middle of the city, I have now talked to our good Sports Minister, including the Sports Foundation and they have now agreed that the LCA will also take over the management and run the sports facility," he said.

Mr Rosso said LCA will be putting money into developing the facility for the benefit of the people of Lae.

"We'll be able to put some money into it to develop it and to make certain that the people utilize it properly.

"So the LCA will be able to manage it, develop and maintain the facilities."

PRIME MINISTER MARAPE COMMENDS WORKS AND HIGHWAYS AS TRANS-NATIONAL HIGHWAY NEARS COMPLETION

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea - Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has expressed his appreciation to the Department of Works and Highways for their outstanding efforts in nearing the completion of the Trans-National Highway Corridor Missing Link between Aseki in Morobe and Epo in Gulf.

Prime Minister Marape commended the dedicated teams of the Department of Works and Highways for their relentless work under challenging conditions, including continuous rain and rugged terrain, to establish this crucial road. He emphasised that this accomplishment exemplifies the success of the Marape Government's flagship 'Connect PNG' programme.

During his visit to remote Menyamya in Morobe earlier this year, Prime Minister Marape followed the route of the Trans-National Highway by helicopter. This experience further reinforced his admiration for the project and the teams involved.

"I extend my commendation to Minister Hon. Solan Mirisim, Secretary David Wereh, and the entire team of civil engineers at the Department of Works and Highways," stated Prime Minister Marape.

"My government is fully committed to addressing key missing links like this, in order to facilitate the development and integration of all regions within our country."

Anticipating the celebration of Papua New Guinea's 50 years of independence on September 16, 2025, Prime Minister Marape expressed his hope that people will be able to travel from Port Moresby to Lae and vice versa through this corridor by then.

The 'Missing Link' of the Trans-National Highway, spanning 159.8km, lies between Oiwa in Aseki, Morobe, and Epo in Gulf.

"From Oiwa to Kotidanga is 81.2km, and Epo to Kotidanga is 78.6km," said the Prime Minister.

With the Department of Works and Highways establishing two teams, Team Morobe and Team Gulf, significant progress has been achieved.

"During the last 21 months, 64km has been completed, with 32km from Morobe and 32km from Gulf, respectively. This represents 39.4 percent from Morobe and 40.7 percent from Gulf, amounting to 40 percent of the 159.8km," highlighted Prime Minister Marape.

To finalise the Trans-National Highway Corridor Missing Link, a remaining distance of 95.8km is yet to be completed. Team Morobe is responsible for 49.2km, while Team Gulf will handle 46.6km. The Prime Minister expects this remaining work to be finished by December 2024.

Ms Francesca Semoso has been a former politician in the Autonomous Bougainville Government for two terms, first elected through the reserve seat for women where she rose to become the deputy speaker for Bougainville. PM MARAPE LAUNCHES NATIONAL GOLD BULLION POLICY

Prime Minister Hon. James Marape says the landmark National Gold Bullion Policy 2023 complements his Government’s vision to fully industrialise the economy.

He said this on Friday (May 12, 2023) when launching the comprehensive policy in front of a fullhouse crowd in Port Moresby. PM Marape was accompanied by Acting Minister for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Soroi Eoe, whose department was responsible for drawing up the policy

PM Marape assured small-scale mining operators that the policy was not intended to disrupt or undermine their operations, but provide opportunities for greater benefits

The policy provides a framework that will encourage the accumulation of the national wealth through extraction, production, storing and trading of gold.

The State’s participation in Papua New Guinea’s gold industry is only limited under the current royalty-tax regime with foreign-owned mines in PNG. The Government, therefore, is keen to rebalance the sector towards a greater public ownership of mines, undertaking explorations, engaging in mining activities, and supporting this policy for refining, minting, and trading of State-owned gold. Through this policy, the Government will provide a regulatory framework and build a vibrant domestic gold bullion ecosystem to create sustainable wealth to improve quality of life and the socio-economic status of its population.

“This policy complements my Government’s intentions to fully industrialise our economy by harvesting and adding value to our vast natural resources,” PM Marape said.

“Since the early days of gold prospecting and gold mining, our economy has grown, and so too have the challenges facing the gold industry. The National Gold Bullion Policy represents a significant step forward in the responsible and sustainable management of PNG’s gold resources. It represents a significant opportunity for us to maximise the value of our gold resources for the benefit of our people.”

PM Marape said the National Gold Bullion Policy would, among others:
• Aim to address downstream processing of core gold into bullion bars and promote the trading of the bullion bars through a transparent and accountable process in the country;
• Create a more-transparent and efficient process for the sale and export pf gold, ensuring that all gold produced in the county is refined onshore into bullion;
• Establish a competent domestic gold bullion programme to refine PNG’s high-grade gold;
• Advocate for establishment of a gold refinery that meets London Gold Bullion Standards; and
• Work towards getting more gold in PNG to be processed in the country

PM MARAPE TO OFFICIATE AT PNG SEZ SUMMIT

Prime Minister Hon. James Marape will officiate at the three-day Papua New Guinea Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Summit to be held in Port Moresby from May 7-9.

The event - organised by Department of International Trade and Investment - will bring together SEZ experts from around the world, Government departments and agencies, private sector and the provinces to discuss the establishment of SEZs in PNG.

PM Marape, who has been spearheading establishment of SEZs since passage of the SEZ Authority Bill in 2019, will open the summit on the evening of Sunday, May 7.

“I look forward to presentations by SEZ experts from around the world, successful SEZ countries, as well as potential SEZs in PNG,” he said.

“My Government has been pushing hard for the establishment of SEZs in PNG since 2019 and I commend hardworking International Trade and Investment Minister, Hon. Richard Maru, for playing a leading role.

“Work was somewhat slowed down due to the onset of COVID-19 in 2020, 2021 and 2022, but Minister Maru took the bull by the horn after I appointed him as Minister responsible for SEZs after the 2022 elections.”

PM Marape said SEZ establishment in PNG was a work in progress.

“Last September, while in Tokyo, Japan, Minister Maru and I held discussions with international SEZ leader, Japan Development Institute (JDI), and I am pleased to say that JDI was immediately engaged by Government to check out potential of SEZ sites around the country. I look forward to JDI’s report at the summit,” he said.

“In March this year, while in Gabon, Central Africa, I saw for myself how SEZs can transform the economy of a country. The Gabon SEZ has created 16,000 direct and indirect jobs; exported US$265 million worth of products exported annually; processed 820,000 cubic metres (m3) of timber in 2020; and generated US$1.7 billion in direct foreign investments.

“This is the path I have been envisaging since I took office - switch to downstream processing of our natural resources. In my various meetings, with world leaders, I have been inviting them to invest in this space.

“Look at remote Kurindal in Lasul-Baining Local Level Government (LLG), Gazelle, East New Britain. In March, I was there to launch the brand-new KKC Veneer Mill. This is the second veneer plant in the country after Angoram in East Sepik, which are types of businesses we want in SEZs. The mill is very much is in line with my Government’s push for downstream processing of logs and other resources. It is providing employment and training to hundreds of young people, as well as building the local economy, in this rural area of East New Britain.

“I want to see many more such projects spring up at SEZs all over the country. We have potential for downstream processing in not just forestry but agriculture, fisheries, mining , oil and gas and all other associated businesses like hotels, pharmaceuticals, textiles and other manufacturing.

“SEZ expansion is job creation and economic growth - which is a major focus of my Government.

“We have allocated over K300 million in the 2023 Budget for land, agriculture, fisheries , equity, and SME development to support this policy intention of Government.”

“I was very pleased to meet with the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Dr TANAKA Akihiko, to discuss progress on PNG’s economic reform program as well as Japanese assistance to PNG. The JICA President praised the determination with which PNG was pursuing its budget repair and reconstruction program. He noted the importance of the 13 year budget repair plan as well as the positive start to a funded program with the IMF. He highlighted how this greatly added to PNG’s international economic credibility and further funding opportunities with other international partners” stated the Treasurer, Ian Ling-Stuckey.

“JICA has been supporting PNG’s development since 1974. Indeed, their first project in PNG was support for the national fisheries sector in Kavieng, according to accompanying Japanese Embassy staff. They have provided a broad range of support covering technical assistance, training, grants and loans exceeding K2.4 billion since 1974. They have been an extremely valuable bilateral development partner and their projects and loans have assisted in increasing our exports, our incomes and jobs.

“Too many people in PNG are critical of loans and borrowings. The reality is that loans can have much greater benefits than costs.

One loan of K651 million is supporting the redevelopment of the Nadzab airport, a vital second major airport in PNG which can promote exports, tourism and travel safety. A second loan, the K195 million RAMU Transmission System Reinforcement project, is designed to improve the reliability of power supply to Lae, once again vital for supporting economic development with rates of economic return higher than loan costs.

“Social media keyboard warriors need to understand that good, cheap loans can support PNG’s development. However, such loans must fund worthwhile activities, rather than roads to nowhere, and clear plans must be in place to ensure that any such loans are fiscally sustainable. PNG’s 13 year budget repair plan, backed with accountability processes such as the IMF, provide the basis for ensuring PNG’s debts are sustainable. The meeting with the JICA President, who has an annual budget of K45 billion, nearly double PNG’s total budget, was encouraging. When people such as he praise the determined approach PNG is taking to budget repair, debt sustainability, and economic development, one gains confidence that the country is on the right track, with competent leadership” stated the Treasurer.
