We are delighted to announce that this evening Cllr Jade Seager has become Deputy Mayoress of Peterborough City Council alongside Deputy Mayor Cllr Andrew Bond.

As Andrew’s partner of 10 years, Jade has been a constant source of support and dedication, and we know she will do a fantastic job in this important civic role during the year ahead.

Together, Andrew and Jade will proudly support the new Mayor, Cllr Chris Harper, and his wonderful wife Rita throughout their mayoral year.

A fantastic moment for Fletton and Stanground ward and for the Liberal Democrats.

Councillor Chris Harper has been elected as Peterborough City Council Mayor for 2026/27. His appointment was confirmed following the annual council meeting this evening. Cllr Harper’s wife Rita will be Mayoress.

The Deputy Mayor will be Cllr Andrew Bond, and Cllr Jade Seager will be Deputy Mayoress.

During his spell as Mayor, Cllr Harper will support the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Peterborough Women's Aid and Little Miracles.

Your Lib Dem councillors for Fletton & Stanground are delighted to see plans approved for a new SEND unit at Southfields Primary School 👏

This will create a dedicated space for up to 38 children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, helping ensure more young people can access the support they need within their local community 🏫✨

This is an important step forward in making sure every child has access to the right education and opportunities, inclusive of their individual needs.

A specialist unit for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is to be created at Southfields Primary School.

Council cabinet members have authorised the refurbishment of underutilised space at the school in Stanground to create a dedicated SEND Unit for 38 children.

The move is part of our commitment to ensuring every child and young person can access quality education in their local community, regardless of their individual needs.

🚨 Anti-social behaviour in our area 🚨

Your Lib Dem councillors for Fletton & Stanground are aware of ongoing anti-social behaviour in parts of the ward.

We know that children sometimes play games like knock door run after school. While this might seem harmless to some, we are also aware of groups of older teenagers repeatedly targeting properties and causing damage. This has left some residents feeling frightened and anxious in their own homes.

That is simply not acceptable.

We are requesting increased patrols and raising concerns with the relevant authorities. Everyone deserves to feel safe where they live 🧡

If you have children who are out playing in groups after school, please do have a conversation with them about being respectful of neighbours and the impact their actions can have.

The biggest shake-up of local government in a generation is taking place which will mean that from April 2028 Peterborough City Council will cease to exist.

Four options have been submitted to Government for consideration, which set out how a new system of unitary authorities across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough could provide council services.

The Government is now consulting on these options. Councillors in Peterborough voted for Option D (Greater Peterborough) as their preferred option. Option D would include three unitary councils - one for Peterborough and West Huntingdonshire, one for Fenland, East Huntingdonshire, East Cambridgeshire, and another for South Cambridgeshire, Cambridge City.

Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by the terrible incident that took place on the train between Peterborough and Huntingdon on Saturday evening.

The news released today that the man charged in connection with this incident is a resident of Fletton has understandably left many residents feeling shocked and unsettled.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us. We completely understand how distressing this feels.

We want to reassure residents that we are in regular contact with Cambridgeshire Police and local partners. We have requested an urgent community drop-in session so residents can speak directly with officers, ask questions, and receive reassurance and support.

We will also be at our regular monthly ward surgery this evening (4–5pm at Bewiched, Fletton Quays) and encourage anyone with concerns to come along for an informal chat.

We will share details of the police drop-in session as soon as they are confirmed.

🚧 Southfields Drive Reconstruction & Bin Collection Update 🚛♻️
