With much of Scotland experiencing a snowy start to February, have you ever wondered how avalanche hazards are assessed and communicated in Scotland's challenging mountain environment?

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service (SAIS) has been instrumental in providing critical, daily avalanche forecasts across six key regions since the early 1990s.

In our latest guest blog, Mark Diggins shares more about the work of SAIS and how they help to support safer access to the mountains over winter months. Read the blog: https://ncr.glasgow.ac.uk/?p=2559

Are you looking for some Friday listening? We recommend 'Are you ready?' from BBC Radio 4. Professor Lucy Easthope assesses the state of national resilience today, and by exploring the history of preparedness – from the Second World War to the modern prepper movement – she asks what lessons can be learned.

She finds out how we can break down the mental and practical barriers to resilience, as well as the challenges of creating a culture of preparedness when the threads that connect us as a society are frayed, but she discovers how vital it is that we start regaining these tools, skills and knowledge before the next disaster.

Lucy Easthope is on a mission to find out how we can become better prepared.
