🚨 The Guardian has revealed the growing arsenal of so-called “less lethal” weapons being used by police forces across Australia.

Tasers. Pepper spray. Tear gas. Rubber rounds. Flashbangs. Stinger grenades.

Many of these weapons are routinely described as safer alternatives to fi****ms. Yet they have been linked to serious injuries, trauma, and in some cases death.

📣 What concerns us most is not only the weapons themselves, but the lack of public awareness and scrutiny around their use.

At a time when people are taking to the streets to speak out against war, injustice, and environmental destruction, we should all be paying attention to the expanding powers and tactics available to the state.

Democracy doesn’t end at the ballot box. It relies on the right to assemble, protest and dissent without fear. 👊

If these weapons are being deployed in our communities and at public demonstrations, transparency and accountability aren’t optional — they’re essential.

🚨Your right to protest in WA is now being systematically eroded.

Two extreme new bills are currently moving through Parliament. If passed, they will drastically expand police powers, criminalise sharing protest footage online, and even allow 10-year-olds to be charged with criminal offences.

The committee evaluating the Public Order Bill reports back on June 18—meaning we need to get the word out there NOW.

Remember the brutal treatment and charging of protestors by police in Sydney against Israeli President Herzog?

Civil society groups are calling on the Minns government and the NSW police to drop the charges against the anti-Herzog protesters that were laid under a since-struck-down law and involved mass police brutalisation of the public.

☝️The NSW Supreme court has found that the charges laid against protesters are unconstitutional and unlawful. And that pursuing further prosecutions is untenable.

“The right to peaceful protest is a cornerstone of any healthy democracy,” said NSW Council for Civil Liberties president Timothy Roberts last Monday. “When police act unlawfully to crack down on a public assembly like we saw on 9 February, the courts cannot be used as an instrument to finish the job. These charges should never have been laid.”

This is a significant development in the fight for our rights to protest! 🤜🤛

An incredible line-up of local artists took us on a powerful musical journey through our shared humanity in fighting for a better world. It was the concert of 2026!

Moments at Songs of Protest with maestros Dave Johnson on guitar and vocals, Maggie Hale on base and Phoebe Corke on violin - Nauru - goosebumps. ❤️

Dave first composed this song in 2019 as part of the successful refugee rights “Kids Off Nauru”campaign, against the off-shore processing of refugees.

And we honour and celebrate Dave’s great contribution to the success of that campaign.

Stoked for the full house that gathered for our second exhibition night of Unruly Voices. 🔥

Coming together to soak-up the collective wisdom of protest from Sophie McNeill , Jo Valentine, Tanesha Bennell, Marziya Mohammedali along with our MC Anna Copeland, was awesome.

Understanding the potential impacts of current WA legilsative changes to supress our freedom of speech and right to protest, was clearly of interest to many. Stay tuned to hear more from us on this in coming weeks!

Hehe. And a special mention to our esteemed special political guests. Jellyback Albo, Planet Cooker and Mad King were refused entry and their ears burned when they heard mention of the State Capture. Brilliant! Thanks Sally Knowles. 🎩
