Genesee County Continues Vaccine Efforts
January 19, 2021
The Genesee County Health Department has received 2,080 doses of vaccine from the State of Michigan. As of this date, all doses of vaccine received last week are now in the arms of our residents.
We expect to receive 2,300 first doses of the Moderna vaccine this week, with 1,200 additional doses received to ensure that those who have already received their first dose will have a second dose available for them.
As the health department continues to ramp up for anticipated increases in vaccine availability, we have experienced more demand than our website has been able to handle. This has caused temporary outages. We continue to work to address this capacity issue. We appreciate your continued patience during the next few days as critical changes are being made. Should you experience any delay in accessing our website, please continuing trying.
All vaccines will be administered by appointment only. Pre-registration is necessary for an appointment. Health Department staff will call pre-registrants to set an appointment when vaccine is available. This screening process will include prioritizing our most vulnerable populations. This means that someone who filled out the pre-registration later than you, or is younger than you, or healthier than you may be offered the appointment before you.
We are asking that if you meet the 1A or 1B eligibility that you pre-register on our website at www.gc4me.com. There is a link in the banner at the top of the page.
For those seniors that may not have access to a computer, please call your local senior center or VAAA to provide your pre-registration information.
Having completed your pre-registration does not mean an appointment is available for you. We continue to ask for more vaccine than is available from the State of Michigan. As they receive and provide more vaccine, more appointments will be released to the public.
1A/1B Individuals now eligible for vaccination in Genesee County include:
• Long term care facility residents
• People age 65 and up (People 80+ being the highest prioritization level)
• Law enforcement
• Firefighters
• Shelter workers
• Corrections workers
• Pre-kindergarten through high school teachers, support staff who usually have direct contact with children, with priority given to staff over 50 years of age
• Child care workers who usually have direct contact with children, with priority given to staff over 50 years of age
At this time we do not have enough vaccine to include all essential workers or other infrastructure workers.
Every Monday, the Genesee County Health Department will reevaluate prioritization based on the number of vaccines received from the state, and will issue updates.
We want to vaccinate everyone as quickly as possible and fully understand the frustration that our residents are feeling about this process not being fast enough. WE AGREE! Supplies are limited everywhere across the country. Please be patient; we are vaccinating as quickly as possible and limited by the number of vaccines available across the state.
