Adeana Young, whose Haida name is Kuun Jaadas (pronounced koon jaa-dus), is your Green Party of Canada Candidate for the Skeena-Bulkey Valley riding in Canada's 2021 federal election. Adeana Young is of Haida descent and grew up on and is still living on Haida Gwaii, briefly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands. She's been involved with local politics for 10 years and is currently serving as a Sch
ool Board Trustee and appointed director on several boards within her community. She can also be found in the 2018 feature length Haida language film, SGaawaay K'uuna/Edge of the Knife. Her desire for politics stems from her ambition to make systemic changes to lift the oppression of which individuals feel in their day-to-day lives. She comes from a place where solutions are meaningful and impactful for the social, ecological and economic well-being of all. Raised in the cultural beliefs of being a steward of the air, land and sea she sees this as an opportunity to reinforce the Green Economy. Adeana volunteered and was chosen to be a spokesperson for a peoples group called Gaandlee Guu Jaalang-Daughters of the Rivers. Gaandlee Guu Jaalang occupy the unceded land, practice food sovereignty and safety alongside their allies. Adeana is a storyteller and possesses wisdom and a calmness beyond her years. She has a deep love for her people, community and country and offers a bridge to the misunderstandings we experience today. She is a great listener, solution-driven and wants to be active in reconciliation and the journey that has started throughout the nation today. There is much work to do and she is ready to take a seat in government alongside others who live in this great nation. She lives with great vulnerability which leads to humility. Her humility leads to being educated and connected to others.
