Room Integrity Fan Test
also known as a Door Fan Test, is simply a way to measure the leakage of an enclosure. A large fan is temporarily installed in the doorway of the room to be tested, with the fan blowing into the room (pressurizing the room). The fan speed is adjusted to obtain flow pressure equivalent to the pressure exerted during a fire suppression system discharge. The fan is then reversed on the door to draw air from the room (depressurizing the room). The airflow and pressure readings obtained are entered into a computer program designed to calculate the equivalent leakage area (ELA) for the room. When a room has a suspended (drop) ceiling, then the below ceiling leakage area (BCLA) is calculated as one-half the total ELA and is used in the calculations for retention time.

Given that most gaseous chemical agents used for fire suppression are heavier than air, the agent will begin to leak out of any lower level penetrations left unsealed. The rate at which the agent leaks is directly proportional to the amount of leakage at higher elevations of the room. As agent leaks out, fresh air replaces it from above. The point where fresh air above meets the concentration air mixture is called the descending interface.

Because of its nature, a Door Fan Test will always calculate the worse case leakage for the room. It draws air through leaks in the room and under the floor as well as above the suspended ceiling to predict the descending interface of the suppression agent. The length of time it takes for the descending interface to reach the minimum protected height identifies the concentration hold time.

Room integrity test for Gaseous Fire Suppression System

The ability for the gaseous agent to be retained in the protected room for an extended period of time is critical to the performance of any total flooding clean agent fire extinguishing system. NFPA 2001, Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems, requires that a minimum concentration of 85% of the adjusted minimum design concentration be held at the highest level of combustibles for a minimum period of 10 minutes. Those installing these systems are required to perform a Room Integrity Fan Test to assure the protected room will hold the agent for the required period of time

Gas Fire Suppression System.

Gaseous Fire suppression system extinguishes fire by removing the oxygen content in air to below 15% where most materials do not burn. They are activated by a smoke detection system that detects the early presence of smoke.

A high-quality gas suppression system means that water is not always essential to contain fire. ace_fire.safety_solutions are experts in advising which form of fire suppression is best to use in each unique situation.

You can trust that our gas suppression systems are of the highest quality. Gas suppression systems will make sure that your employees, assets and data are safe when firefighting with water is not an option.

Our field technicians are highly skilled, ready to provide you with a reliable gas suppression system that is fully compliant with current regulations, maintained to the highest of standards at all times.

Pre-Action Fire Sprinkler Systems: Like dry pipe systems, pre-action pipes do not hold water within the sprinkler piping and are instead filled with compressed air or nitrogen. Unlike a dry pipe system, the pre-action valve governs the flow of water. There are two types of pre-action systems:

Single Interlock: This system requires a single, preceding fire detection event to occur. This event is almost always through the activation of a heat or smoke detector. Once this happens, the pre-action valve allows water to enter the piping system. If a sprinkler head activates before this, it will sound a trouble alarm, but no water will discharge.

Double Interlock: Some businesses prefer the added layer of protection that a double interlock pre-action system provides. Double Interlock systems require that a preceding fire detection occurs in conjunction with an automatic sprinkler activation before water releases into the pipes. The activation of one alarm alone will not be enough.

Double Interlock systems are useful for the protection of extra water-sensitive items that cannot afford to be lost such as museum artifacts. However, they are complex setups that are high-cost and high-maintenance. Without routine and diligent maintenance, these systems run a higher risk of malfunction. Additionally, their response time is slower than that of a single interlock pre-action or wet pipe system.

When you operate a busy restaurant in Goa, it’s easy to forget about the importance of fire safety. However, a reliable kitchen hood fire suppression system is necessary for the survival and recovery of your business after a cooking fire.

A kitchen hood fire suppression system releases wet chemical extinguishing agents designed to put out cooking fires. These chemicals react with grease to create a harmless soapy substance that can’t re-ignite. This process, called saponification, protects the hoods, appliances, and plenum areas from the ravages of fire. For added safety, fire extinguisher K-type( wet chemical agent) should be provided in the kitchen area, and the system will also shuts off the electricity and gas powering your commercial kitchen.

Water spray systems are often used to provide fire protection and complete water impingement for oil-filled electrical transformers. Transformers are available in many different sizes and configurations and a complete understanding of all the relevant
transformer information is necessary to ensure the proper nozzle selection. However, high velocity spray nozzles can be extremely
effective in extinguishing the high flash point non-miscible combustible liquids fire that results from the catastrophic failure and explosion of the electrical transformer. Additional considerations in the selection of the proper nozzle outdoor transformers include the effect of wind, the nozzle capacity and placement of the nozzle. Electrical clearances may require the selection of a nozzle capable of a large water discharge to achieve the proper range and coverage of the water spray. The water spray system is also designed to provide cooling for the structural and metal elements while the combustible liquids are being extinguished. NFPA 15 outlines the specific requirements for placement of the spray nozzles to avoid the live un-insulated electrical equipment and it is critical that the water spray system be designed in a manner to remove power before water is applied.
