Developers want to turn Coney Island into a playground for gamblers that will leave our community to deal with traffic and congestion, crime and bankruptcies. We can't let them do whatever they want, we've got to come out and fight back!

NYCHA is working with the big banks and the government to give all the public housing in New York to private corporations using the PACT and Public Housing "Preservation Trust" schemes. The privatization of NYCHA is part of their plan to turn Coney Island into a resort destination for the rich and drive out tenants who can't afford sky-high rents. Join NYCHA tenants in Coney Island who are fighting to say NO to NYCHA's plan to privatize!

Yesterday over 150 NYCHA tenants from across Coney Island in Brooklyn came together for a meeting on the truth about the privatization of NYCHA and why tenants have to fight back against this attack by the government, big banks and developers which leads to gentrification & displacement.

Many tenants who attended are seniors who have lived in Coney Island for decades. They’re concerned that if NYCHA is privatized and they’re pushed out, not only will moving out of their homes be very difficult, but they will have nowhere to go. So they are taking up the fight.

We organized the meeting with Coney Island NYCHA tenants who contacted us after learning about our experiences fighting privatization. Tenants went door to door and posted flyers in English, Russian, and Spanish in their lobbies. So many people came that we had to meet outside.

We are organizing a protest against the privatization of NYCHA on Sunday, February 5th at 12pm on W 24th and Surf Ave, outside Haber Houses in Coney Island. Join us.
