On 8 June 2026, the Consulate of the Republic of San Marino in the United Kingdom had the honour of taking part at the reception hosted by the Consul General of Italy in London, H.E. Domenico Bellantone, to mark the 80th Anniversary of the Italian Republic and the Festa della Repubblica Italiana, held at the magnificent Somerset House in London.

The Consulate was pleased to take part in such a significant occasion, represented by Miss Giulia Surianello. The evening was a wonderful moment of exchange and connection within the Italian community in London, bringing together members of the diplomatic community, distinguished guests, and representatives of Italian culture and institutions in the United Kingdom.

The Consulate of the Republic of San Marino extends its warmest congratulations to the Italian Republic on this important anniversary, and its sincere gratitude to Consul General Domenico Bellantone and Mrs Marinù Bellantone for a truly memorable evening that brought the very best of Italian culture to London.

We look forward to continuing to strengthen our ties with the Italian diplomatic community in the United Kingdom and to the many moments of collaboration and shared values that lie ahead.

From 5 to 7 June 2026, Consul of the Republic of San Marino to the UK and Northern Ireland, Consul Maurizio Bragagni OBE, participated in the 35th EBRD Annual Meeting and Business Forum in Riga, Latvia, alongside EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso, UK Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, and senior leaders from across the world.

This year's forum centred on Ukraine's reconstruction, the green transition, and the strengthening of governance and human capital across the Bank's regions of operation. Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, the EBRD has deployed €10 billion in Ukraine's real economy, with €800 million already committed in 2026 alone.

Consul Bragagni's message reflected San Marino's firm commitment to the values underpinning the EBRD's mission. The progress of the past eighty years has been driven by free markets, the private sector, democracy, and innovation.

The Consulate of the Republic of San Marino is proud to stand with the EBRD's mission, to support values of international cooperation and multilateralism, and to have taken part in this important moment in the international economic agenda.

https://www.consolatosanmarino.uk/it/news/san-marino-at-the-2026-ebrd-annual-meeting-and-business-forum-in-riga/ Never in human history have ordinary people seen such an improvement in living standards as during the past 80 years. This progress has been driven by free enterprise, democracy, innovation and the rule of law.

These principles remain fundamental. They underpin not only the work of the EBRD, but also the broader international framework aimed at fostering prosperity and stability.

Free markets and democracy continue to represent the most effective engines of economic and social advancement. The EBRD’s commitment to these values, particularly in the current global context, is essential for ensuring sustainable growth and shared progress.

A significant part of the discussions in Riga focused on Ukraine’s economic resilience and future reconstruction, a matter of common concern for the international community. During the side event “Charting the Path to Ukraine’s Reconstruction”, it was highlighted the scale of the challenges ahead and the importance of coordinated international efforts. We are honoured to welcome Her Majesty Queen Maxima of The Netherlands, UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health, as a special guest at this year’s EBRD Annual Meeting Opening Session.

In her role as the UN Secretary-General's Special Advocate for Financial Health, Her Majesty will address the importance of a financial system that helps all people meet their daily needs, strengthen resilience, invest in their futures, and build long-term prosperity and confidence — and the role institutions such as the EBRD can play in supporting efforts to advance financial health.
