Wondering what to do with those signs now that the RINK HAS PASSED!!!

The placards need to be put in the trash. According to Belmont DPW they should not be put in your recycling bin.

Please bring your metal frame(s) BY TUESDAY, APRIL 11, to one of the following collection locations, and we will recycle them - they cannot be put in your recycling bin, but we have made other arrangements to recycle them. Please bring them to 30 Bow Rd., 49 Sandrick Rd., 118 Rutledge Rd. or 80 Hammond Rd.

Thank you!

Four reasons to vote YES on #1 for the Belmont Community Rink & Sports Facility.

1. The old rink is permanently closed.
…… The Belmont Select Board described this decision as “new rink or no rink”

2. The new “no frills” plan maximizes efficiency and flexibility.
…… Preserves skating and hockey in Belmont by replacing the failed rink
…… Adds 7.5 months of “usefulness” with a year-round facility that can be used in dozens of ways

3. The facility benefits the entire community.
…… Provides a wide array of ice & “non-ice” programs, plus support for activities on the fields

4. The project is ready.
…… Design changes have reduced cost by 10% while preserving all core functionality

…… That translates to $170/year, or $14/month, on a property assessed at $1M

Why should you vote YES on Question #1 tomorrow?

The Community Rink will create new opportunities for an array of activities that serve the diverse interests of our residents. Some will engage in the 3 seasons of ice-based activities as participants or spectators. Some through summer “non-ice” camps and sports. Others will use the bathrooms and concessions during events at Harris Track & Field. This mix of activities will be shaped by our community, for our community; the facility has a flexible design that has many possibilities.

The new Community Rink and Sports Facility will offer 7.5 additional months of new programming (operating year-round) — both with and without ice — based on priorities developed with the community.

HOW WILL DECISIONS BE MADE REGARDING USE OF THE FACILITY?

-- If the facility is approved by voters, a plan for programming the facility will be developed through a 9–12-month, iterative community input process that establishes priorities and guidelines. The intent of this process is to maximize the benefit to the community.

-- Programming of the facility falls within the purview of the Select Board, not the Building Committee. The Building Committee is responsible for constructing a flexible building to deliver a defined program, but they have no role in determining how it will be used.
THE FACILITY IS BEING DESIGNED TO BENEFIT THE ENTIRE BELMONT COMMUNITY.

There are many changes when compared to the existing rink.

-- The facility is designed to operate for 12 months/year, which allows for 7.5 additional months of programming. This creates many more hours for different types of programming that allow many more people to participate.

-- The facility is designed for flexibility and will support activities both with ice and without ice, as well as activities on Harris Track and Field and the other nearby fields.

-- Activities with ice could include skating lessons, open skating, figure skating, hockey, special needs programs, community skating events, and more.

-- Activities without ice could include summer camps, pickleball, exercise classes, special events, and many other sports and recreation programs.

-- The facility will replace the locker rooms used by football and hockey and storage rooms used by ski and golf teams that are currently housed in the White Field House. (The White Field House will be demolished.) In addition, the new facility is designed to support additional teams on Harris Field and the nearby fields.

A big thank you to all the volunteers helping to get the word out by canvassing, even in todays's biting wind, frigid temperatures and rain. We’ve given out 77% of the routes which means about 4500 households reached.

And a special thank you to these stalwarts for their continued dedication, and for reaching an impressive 12% of these households themselves. Please reach out if you would like to hear how you can help in the final push!
