Wade Nelson for Artesia City Council- District 3 2022 City Council Elections. Vote for Wade Nelson- District 3 City Council Person on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Follow Us!

The man who will work closely with the newly elected mayor and will make a difference for the City of Champions. I come from a generational family and want to be part of seeing Artesia continue moving and growing in a positive direction. I am an Artesia High School graduate, Vice President of the Artesia Chamber of Commerce, promotor of local development and supporter of local business. My family

lives here and we enjoy being a part of Bulldog Country. I am in favor of partnerships with the private sector and Artesia High School. I do not believe Artesia government is only streets, sewer and garbage but includes many facets , including improving our "quality of life" to attract and keep families in Artesia. Working at Central Valley Electric Cooperative, Inc. for 24 years now has taught me the importance of communication and being available to the community; one of the seven cooperative principles is, "Concern for Community." My engineering and management background taught me to pay attention to the details and how to prioritize so I can complete projects in a timely manner. That is my plan as well for being part of the City Council for Artesia, NM. I look forward to talking with the people about my ideas and hearing about other's thoughts and opinions. I am approachable, open to communication and will be there for my district and the city. By following this page, you will receive updates about this election and will be able to ask questions while seeing other followers comments and concerns. We are a small but mighty group and will do our best to respond quickly. Share our information and remember to follow the discussion opportunities.

The PROJECTED budget gap for the Artesia Aquatic Center for this year is a LOSS of $750,000.

Priority 1- Close the gap.
Will we close it completely and make a profit? No.
Must we work to stop the bleeding best we can? Yes.

The current plan is a policy change for bringing in outside food, specifically from restaurants. Pizza, burgers, etc. and encouraging pool concession stand sales that are comparable in price to your typical outside options.
And installing the Ninja System, using grant funds, to increase traffic in the pool to use something unique and exciting to our area.

The pool is working to provide swimmers with an improved expanded concession stand and I have included the first draft(in the comments) of what the pool is considering, to give you an idea and to seek your suggestions.

Priority 2- Property cleanliness and safety. Extra large coolers have become a discussion point for pool management for issues such as broken glass bottles and alcohol.

Does this concern pertain to everyone? Of course not. Most swimmers are considerate and appropriate.

But it is still an issue and prevalent enough that it requires addressing. The Aquatic Center is not a campground and if a group creating a "campsite" that includes a cooler of this size, multiple hot and ready pizzas, McDonalds, etc. this will stop at the start of the season and I make no apologies for it.

I have included a picture of many of the large sized coolers the pool is seeing come in. To give you an idea of the conflict these coolers present for operations.

Will there be exceptions? Of course. Do you really feel like your City is being ran as a one size fits all model? Have more faith in those that you have elected and the facilities we strive to perfect for the public.

I’m available this Tuesday at Minute with the Mayor. 8:30am at Kith&Kin. Come, sit and talk to me about your concerns with this pool policy change. Despite the narrative of some, I truly want to hear from you and get your perspective before making decisions that may affect your family at our pool.

Every year the Artesia Chamber of Commerce coordinates an event to provide the best source of summer information to those with kiddos.
This event is a one stop shop to learn about and sign up for summer activities that interest your family.

I know a popular narrative is "there is nothing to do in Artesia for kids" but I don't believe this to be accurate! You must do a little leg work, like adding this date to your calendar NOW! And showing up to the event with your kids.
But the hard part is going to be done for you by the incredible staff at the Chamber! They will group summer activity options together for YOU!
Let's work together and pass the word around to families.
May 16th. The day you fill your kids summer schedule up with meaningful activity!
Thank you, Artesia Chamber!

At the City Council Mtg(11/8), HR Director Jerry Conde sought approval for the hiring of two new staff members. A Waste Water Assistant and a Code Enforcement Officer. Pending paperwork, we should be able to welcome these two individuals to the City of Artesia!

At the City Council Mtg(11/8) Cmdr. Horrell with the Artesia PD updated the Council on October community events the PD provided extra patrol for and issues of concerns our officers are dealing with.
The brazen thefts of catalytic converters is a serious concern for our community. A costly and inconvenient situation for those who are targeted.
Cmdr. Horrell stated several departments across county lines are working together on this issue. Theft of this kind is a quick job, making catching the thieves difficult.
Keep an eye out for suspicious behavior. It's going to take everyone's help to put a stop to this nonsense.

We have 75 more days left on Phase 2 of the 20th St Project.
Barring any bad weather events, we are on schedule and working away!
Thank you for your patience, I know many are impacted by this.

247 calls in the month of October.
I really like the transparency and communication the Eddy County Fire & Rescue is providing to the public.
Not only is this informative, it’s very interesting!

The men and women in this department are greatly appreciated for their service.
