Happy Birthday, U.S. Army! The youngest and oldest Fort Rucker Soldiers in the crowd at The Landing joined Maj. Gen. William K. Gayler, U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker commanding general, to cut a cake to mark the 244th year of the U.S. Army today. On June 14, 1775, the Second Continental Congress established an Army to fight the American Revolution, which makes our Army one year older than the Nation it serves. The theme for the event was honoring the call to service from D-Day to today, as the Army also continues to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion during World War II. Coleman, civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army for Alabama South; Maj. Gen. William K. Gayler, and Chief Warrant Officer 5 Sam R. Baker, command chief warrant officer, 110th Aviation Regiment.
