We are delighted to announce Aisha Mir as our party’s candidate for the Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse by-election triggered by the sad passing of Christine McKelvie MSP.
Aisha Mir is a businesswoman, Childrens' Panel member and carer who has also served as Scottish Liberal Democrat spokesperson for human rights and older people.
She has been active in a number of projects & campaigns supporting unpaid carers, welfare for the elderly, human rights, diversity and inequality.
Aisha Mir, Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, said:
“So many people feel like nothing works anymore and that politicians aren’t on their side.
“I am committed to listening to the people and communities that make up Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse and giving my all to make sure they have the representation they deserve.
“I want to put local health and care services at the heart of my campaign. Under the SNP, our NHS has deteriorated with waits for appointments and care packages spiralling.
“It’s time for change for everyone who lives in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse.”
Robert Brown, Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrat Group of South Lanarkshire Council said, ‘I am delighted to welcome Aisha as our tremendous Liberal Democrat candidate for the by election. Liberal Democrats are on the rise - Aisha will be a real and effective champion for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse’
