Earlier this year, commercial motor vehicle law enforcement personnel and industry and association professionals from Canada, Mexico and the U.S. participated in this year’s Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative. 38,158 wallet cards, 13,510 window decals and 1,603 posters were distributed. There were 334 human trafficking outreach events, and 204 presentations were delivered. In addition, 692 media contacts were made and there were 107 reported social media posts. Operation Safe Driver Week starts this Sunday, July 7, through July 13. Law enforcement personnel in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. will be on the lookout for commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in unsafe driving behaviors, such as speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, drunk or drugged driving, etc. Drivers engaging in such behaviors will be pulled over by law enforcement and may be issued a warning or citation. https://www.cvsa.org/news/2024-osd-week/

Enforcement Members: Register to attend our Post-Crash Inspection Training Course, scheduled for July 22-26 in Helena, Montana. This course will teach investigators/inspectors how to conduct a complete forensic examination of CMVs involved in a crash, identify causal factors, secure and collect evidence, identify pre- and post-crash violations, and properly document defects on inspection and additional reports. Students will address post-crash investigation considerations in the classroom and conduct “in-the-field” advanced post-crash inspections. Inspectors in 47 jurisdictions throughout Canada, Mexico and the U.S. conducted 4,898 commercial motor vehicle inspections in one day as part of CVSA's brake-safety inspection and enforcement event. This year’s Brake Safety Day data found that of the 4,898 inspections conducted, 4,328 commercial motor vehicles did not have any brake-related out-of-service violations – 88.4% of the total number of vehicles inspected. However, inspectors identified 570 (11.6%) commercial motor vehicles that were traveling on roadways with brake-related critical inspection item vehicle violations.
