Happy World Rewilding Day! 💚

Today we celebrate the restoration of nature – bringing landscapes back to life and allowing ecosystems to thrive on their own terms. Rewilding is about giving nature the space and support it needs to recover, and it’s happening right here on Chumbe Island. 🏝️

Our marine protected area serves as a vital sanctuary for endangered species. Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, key predators – essential for maintaining a balanced ecosystem – have returned. These include blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, alongside thriving populations of sea turtles. 🌊

On land, the reintroduction of Ader’s duiker – rare, miniature antelopes – enables a healthy and flourishing forest ecosystem. 🌳

Together, these successes show what’s possible when nature is protected and restored. We are proud to be part of the ! Go and check them out 🌿

Mr. Purple says hi and the Chumbe Team is super excited! 🦌💜

Last week we were lucky to capture Mr. Purple – currently the oldest Aders’ duiker on Chumbe Island – on one of our camera traps. Mr. Purple is at least 27 years old, which is an outstanding age for these famous Aders’ duiker mini antelopes, who usually only reach around 12 years.

Mr. Purple was translocated to Chumbe Island in February 2000 and continues to surprise us with his resilience. Leave some love for Mr. Purple and this outstanding wildlife moment! 🙏🏝️
