Friends of the Riverhead Free Library
Community Photo Contest is Returning

The Riverhead Photo Club is pleased to be managing the 2022 contest for the Friends organization. The theme is “The East End Towns” (North & South forks – Riverhead and east). Entries can involve photos in any one of three categories. They are:

*landscape​​*nature/wildlife​​*portrait (people/pets)

Submission dates will be July 20th – August 24th on a first come / first served basis as we are limited to 100 total entries. Individuals may enter in any category but are limited to a total of two images. The entry fee is $20 for a single photo and $30 for two photos.
Entrants can be adults or youth (K – 12).

Entries must be submitted on line through the Photo Club website at: https://riverheadphotoclub.org/contests/register.html

All entrants must also be prepared to provide a framed print in September on Thursday the 22nd (6:30 – 7:30 PM or Saturday the 24th (10 AM – Noon) for display (maximum 24 in. on the longest side) ready for hanging (D hooks with wire).

Virtual judging will be done the end of August (no cash prizes) with the exhibit going live on October 1st. The Overton Gallery in the library display the contest entries during the month of October.

The Riverhead Photo Club is pleased to be managing the 2021 contest for the Friends organization. The theme will be “A World Rediscovered” and involve photos in four categories. They are landscape, MACRO/still life, nature/wildlife and portrait (people/pets). Entrants can be adults or youth (K – 12).

Submission dates will be July 12th – August 17th on a first come / first served basis as we are limited to 100 total entries. Individuals may enter in any category but are limited to a total of two images. The entry fee is $20 for a single photo and $30 for two photos.

Entries must be submitted on line but the entrant must also be prepared to provide a framed print for display in the event the Overton Gallery in the library is available for displaying the contest entries.

Virtual judging will be done the end of August (no cash prizes) with the exhibit going live on October 1st.

More details will be provided as the entry date approaches. Please watch the Friends and Photo Club pages on the library’s web page and also the Photo Club’s web page at www.riverheadphotoclub.org.

The African American Educational and Cultural Festival, Inc.’s
Black History Exhibit.
While Historical times seem like they happened so long ago, — this
collection gives you a glimpse of world-wide to local history. From practical
items and photos to magnificent artworks, we celebrate the contributions of
local and world-wide African Americans to the arts. As part of Black History
Month, we present ‘The Importance of Black History Month’ a special
exhibit of Riverhead Native, 87-year-old Annie Hobson-Jackson, born in
1933. family migrated to Riverhead in 1920 during ‘The Great Migration’,
sometimes known as the Great Northward Migration or the Black Migration,
was the movement of 6 million African Americans out of the rural Southern
United States to the urban Northeast, Midwest and West that occurred
between 1916 - 1970.
Visit the Virtual Exhibit online at the AAECFinc.org or at the Riverhead Free
Library. It is a fascinating exhibition that is encompassed with sculptures,
paintings, and artifacts tracing African Americans from 1500s to today.
