Chasing up water leaks today.

The ongoing leak on Sun Street, Haworth has been visited a number of times by YW who have carried out digs. It hasn’t solved the problem as the water keeps seeping out.

YW don’t believe it is from their clean water supply but are carrying out a chlorine test on the water. They are getting their waste water team to attend to ensure there is no issue with waste water pipe work.

The next option is for Highways/Drainage to look into groundwater issues but given it is constant water flowing this is less likely.

It’s a long saga with no quick end unfortunately. It is particularly problematic when it’s cold and freezes on the corner so please take care.

I will continue to chase up various departments and organisations over this.

Late last night Bradford Council suddenly announced that it is asking for Government permission to increase Council Tax by up to 14.99%, a huge increase that will come as a shock to many families across the District. Whilst the Leader of the Council is rolling out her usual defence of it being the fault of fourteen years of underfunding by the Conservative Government, the truth continues to be that the Labour led Council has wasted money over many years on projects that were not financially viable and made breathtakingly poor decisions that have led to higher costs. These include many poor decisions over children’s services that led to the huge cost of having to set up a separate Children’s Trust and white elephants such as Bradford Live, One City Park, buying and demolishing car parks. These decisions are now going to impact Council Taxpayers across the District for decades to come.

The Council has been consulting on its budget since the end of last year and nowhere has increasing council tax by 14.99% been mentioned. This sudden request is the desperate measure of a council leadership that has belatedly realised that it has run out of ideas and options, despite the fact that the Conservative & Queensbury Independent Group have been pointing out the obvious to them for more than two years. We saw this coming quite some time ago. Labour is now exposed as the party of high taxation both nationally and locally and this from a party that talks about the cost of living crisis at every opportunity.

Bradford Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe has submitted a request to Government to discuss the potential options for raising Council tax above 4.99% - to between 9.99% and 14.99% https://trib.al/z5LQIb1

The final recommendation from the Local Government Boundary Commission over Council Wards has been published today.

In the Worth Valley the ward will increase from 13,803 electors to 14,453 with Denholme, Denholme Gate and all of Goose Eye added to the existing 6 villages. This gives an average of £4,818 electors per Councillor to represent on paper although anyone can contact any of the three Councillors.

This will mean some big changes in Worth Valley with the addition of local groups in Denholme as well as Denholme Town Council and also having two Parliamentary Constituencies split within one ward as Denholme is part of Shipley Constituency.

Parliament will need to approve the proposals and then there will be all out elections on the new boundaries in May 2026 where you will get to vote for three Councillors to represent you.

This is a page for the electoral review of Bradford
