Last week was National Apprenticeship Week.

Here are 5 REME Apprenticeship facts:

The REME currently employs 2311 apprentices across 16 apprenticeship programmes.

505 REME apprentices have completed their apprenticeship since 1 Feb 20.

All REME soldiers are automatically enrolled on an apprenticeship when they commence initial trade training.

The average length of a REME apprenticeship is 30 months from enrolment to completion. Some only take 18 months but some can take 42 months depending on trade.

REME apprenticeships have continued throughout CV19 restrictions. New ways of working have been introduced to ensure that REME apprentices continue to progress, over the last 12 months the REME overall completion rate has actually risen.

Another fantastic achievement for our Corps.

Cpl Lucy-Anne Leo has been named as the IET Armed Forces Technician of the year 2020.

Upon winning the award Cpl Leo who is currently serving at 1 RHA Wksp REME, formerly of 5 Armd Coy, 3 Bn said " “I am so pleased to have won this award and I feel honoured knowing that I was up against some really amazing competitors. The job satisfaction is so good and I feel privileged to have been recognised for this. I really hope that in the future I can help encourage other women to join the engineering world!”.

It is with immense pride that today we can announce the winners of The Churchill Medal.

This is a major achievement for the Corps.

Mark Organ, Head of Membership at the IET said:

The Churchill Medal is the premier prize awarded by the Professional Engineering Institutions (PEIs) for Defence engineering achievement. The award is for an individual or a small team (the majority of whom are serving members of the Armed Forces or were serving at the time) for ‘achievement in Engineering and Technical Advancement in support of the development and use of capability to support Military Operations/Readiness’ - during the period 1st April 2019 to 31st March 2020.
