The Lewistown Fire Department is comprised of 2 Fire Companies within the Borough, those being the City Hook & Ladder and Heritage Volunteer Fire Companies. The Heritage Fire Company is a newly formed Company from the result of a merger between the former United Fire & Rescue and Brooklyn Hose Companies. The former United Fire & Rescue Company was formed as a result of a merger between the Fame an
d Henderson Fire Companies in 1994. Prior to 1994, the Lewistown Fire Department consisted of 4 Companies; Henderson, Fame, Brooklyn, and City. Early indicators show that Lewistown had 2 other existing Firefighting Organizations recognized as the Kite and Juniata Fire Companies, however little to no records exist prior to official documents of the Henderson Fire Company's formation in 1853. The Lewistown Fire Department Roster consists of nearly 90 members and responds to over 300 Alarms Annually.

On 9/27, the LFD was dispatched to a reported House Fire on South Grand Street. A couple LFD members were working construction at a nearby home and were on the scene within seconds. The room and contents of a bedroom were found to have at some point been fully engulfed and also self extinguished. The fire more than likey was kept in check to the bedroom due to the bedroom door being closed and the reduction of airflow. Please remember to help stop the spread of Fire, please keep doors in your homes closed when possible.
