It was great to welcome Tom Perriello to the Historic Dunbar Rosenwald School last night.

Tom took time to tour the school with owner Carmen Smith, reading, exploring and learning about the building’s rich history and the important role it played in our community.

During his remarks, he emphasized the urgency of this moment and the need to stay focused on November. He spoke candidly about the state of our district, Virginia, and the nation, sharing his vision for day one in Congress. Topics ranged from making life more affordable for working families and strengthening our economy to addressing concerns about AI, corporate exploitation of workers and our communities, healthcare, education, and restoring common-sense back to the constitution.

He answered some tough questions from attendees, engaging in thoughtful conversation about the challenges we are facing and the path forward.

This decision is disappointing, but disappointment is not defeat. This was a setback, not a surrender.

If opponents of fair representation think moments like this will discourage people from showing up, they are misunderstanding the moment entirely. Real change has always required persistence, especially in the moments designed to make people feel powerless.

We can either disengage, or we can organize harder, speak louder, mobilize voters, and keep moving forward. Frustration has a way of turning into momentum when people decide enough is enough.

Yesterday, members from the Fluvanna Democratic Committee celebrated Earth Day by helping to maintain our Adopt-a-Highway in historic Columbia. We had beautiful weather and enjoyed great conversations with neighbors along the way.

We were joined by several community members and Columbia residents, including Supervisor Mike Sheridan (caring for our community isn’t partisan).

A big thank you to Columbia Baptist Church for providing lunch and to everyone who showed up to lend a hand!💚
