Nestled in the quiet of Pūʻōhala village, Pūʻōhala Elementary has served the residents of Pūʻōhala Village, Pikoiloa and Kokokahi as well as the surrounding areas for more than 40 years. Our Academic Plan focuses on Common Core state standards, emphasizing math and language arts. The school is focused on increasing student achievement and providing quality student support. The English program was
complemented by the establishment of the Hawaiian Language Immersion Program (HLIP) in 1990 - Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻo Pūʻōhala. All subjects in the HLIP have been revised for Common Core standards and are taught in the Hawaiian language for the entire school day. English is introduced into the Immersion program at the fifth-grade level, thus students in the program are bilingual by the time they depart the school. Administration and staff understand that academics need to provide experiences that support academic learning. Pūʻohala engages the community and families with quarterly events to support learning and showcase student work. Pūʻōhala was recognized as a Distinguished School in 2010 as a result of achieving Adequate Yearly Progress in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011. Pūʻōhala still remains a School in Good Standing as it strives to maneuver the implementation of Common Core state standards. Pūʻōhala teachers and staff members strive to balance academics with personal and community growth as mandated by the school vision statement. Pūʻōhala continues to provide students with the academics and skills necessary for the long-term focus of being college and career ready. COMMENT POLICY:
