We have a chance to make an impact on Utah's air, which in turn could help save the Great Salt Lake and limit the potential for the Parley's Canyon gravel pit (that fight isn't over, you know). Breathing PM2.5 is known to have negative health consequences to airways, lungs and heart, and the science shows there no safe level of air pollution. Current federal PM2.5 standards - which are way too high (35 µg/m3 daily) - are currently under consideration by the EPA to be lowered. If the standards were lowered, it could force Salt Lake County and Utah as a whole to act as they haven't to date. You can read more about it in a Feb 10th Salt Lake Tribune article. The Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment suggest the EPA make the annual PM2.5 standard 8 ug, and the 24 hr standard 25 ug. Please comment by March 28th! The EPA recommends comments be concise and support claims with “sound reasoning, scientific evidence, and/or how you will be impacted.” Please be sure to include your personal stories. Public comments on Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OAR-2015-0072, can happen by any of the following options, but the first is preferred: 1.
