The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Heat Advisory starting today through Friday, June 7 at 12 a.m. in interior and coastal regions of the Bay Area.

Due to the potential for heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, residents are encouraged to take precautionary measures including:

• Drinking plenty of fluids with electrolytes and staying out of the sun and in air conditioning, when possible.

• Ensuring young children and pets are never left in vehicles under any circumstance. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures within minutes.

• Assisting others on the street who may be having a severe reaction to the heat, by calling 9-1-1.

• Checking on a vulnerable person without air conditioning, such as an older adult or infirm neighbor, someone with a drug or alcohol disorder or severe mental illness, via phone or email and ensure that they are staying cool and safe.

For cooling tips, heat safety resources, and a list of Countywide Respite/Cooling Centers, visit https://emergencymanagement.sccgov.org/hot-weather-safety

It’s National EMS Week… And this year, as we recognize the 50th anniversary of the first National EMS Week, we honor the dedication and service of EMS professionals across the nation! Thank you for all you do to deliver the highest level of care in many times fast paced, challenging, and life or death situations.
We caught up with some of our own SCFD firefighter/paramedics, today, who attended a specialty care symposium through County EMS, and found them training on STEMI, burn, stroke, and LVAD care! Great job and Happy EMS Week, All!🚒🚑🤩

**May is Mental Health Awareness Month**

This month, and every month, let’s prioritize our mental health and support one another. If you or someone you know is struggling with emotions such as sadness, depression, or anxiety, remember that help is available:

**Crisis and Su***de Prevention:** Dial 988
**National Alliance on Mental Illness:** Visit [www.nami.org](https://www.nami.org)

The role of a first responder can be very demanding—physically, emotionally, and mentally. Unfortunately, seeking help has often been stigmatized. It’s time to change that. One of the ways we support our mental health is through visits from First Responder Therapy Dogs, a simple yet powerful tool for SCFD personnel and other first responders.

Let’s break the stigma and take care of our mental well-being.

🎉This past weekend, Santa Clara Fire Department welcomed approximately 1000 guests at the SCFD Training Center/Drill Grounds for the Firehouse Community Fair! Visitors were treated to live demonstrations including auto extrication, aerial ladder rescue, live fire extinguisher, and search dog demos. The little people were invited to explore different kids’ agility courses, flow water through fire hose, practice CPR and Stop/Drop/Roll, and learn about fire safety. Several First Responder Therapy Dogs were on hand for furry cuddles; and the SCFD Museum offered a journey through firefighting history. Thank you to all who stopped by and spent time with us! 🚒🔥

The Santa Clara Fire Department and Office of Emergency Services recently held a 21-hour Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) academy. The program taught students how to be self-sufficient after a major disaster by developing a core of citizen responders trained in basic emergency skills. After a final disaster simulation exercise, even in the rain, the class graduated on May 4 at the City’s Fire Department Training Center. Nice work, everyone!👍🚒
