82 years ago today, American soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy in the largest seaborne invasion in history. Thousands gave their lives that day knowing the cost and going forward anyway.

They fought for the freedoms they knew, the people they loved, and the generations to come they would never meet. On this anniversary of D-Day, we honor every soldier who answered that call and never came home. Their sacrifice secured liberty for all of us, and we carry an obligation to protect what they died defending.

As technology advances, we have to be careful that in solving real problems we do not create new ones. A mandate that turns every American driver into a node for government data gathering is not a safety solution. It is a surveillance infrastructure that intrudes on the privacy of law abiding citizens who never asked to be monitored. Our constitutional liberties do not get suspended just because technology makes it convenient to do so.

UPDATE: Language to kill the kill switch just advanced out of committee.

Our amendment to prohibit the FY27 THUD Appropriations bill from funding the kill switch mandate, advanced out of committee today. Taxpayer dollars should not fund a surveillance system that treats every law abiding American driver as a suspect. As we work to address very real problems, we cannot allow our Constitutional liberties to be shredded or create a world where every American driver becomes a node for data gathering.

Hit the road last week in our great district where I got to spend time with veterans in Caldwell County and Bastrop County. We provided them with updates on VA legislation and had our mobile office on site to help work through cases.

Then we had the opportunity to visit with pastors from the Bastrop area who are doing incredible work in their communities. Thank you for your continued prayers.

District week is always a good reminder of why the D.C. work matters.
