Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics In Texas, the Law Enforcement Torch Run® began in 1985 and has grown to become one of the largest in the world.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run in Texas is one of the largest groups of its kind in the world, raising more than $35 million for Special Olympics Texas since 1985. The Law Enforcement Torch Run began in 1981 when Wichita, Kansas Police Chief, Richard LaMunyon, saw an urgent need to raise funds for and increase awareness of Special Olympics. It is projected that Texas Torch Runners will raise more t

han $1.5 million this year. The support provided by this dedicated group has contributed greatly to programs in local communities, which involve more than 58,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Final Leg Team has officially landed in Minneapolis and will be bringing the torch into Opening Ceremonies at the Special Olympics USA Games tonight at Huntington Bank Stadium.

We are proud to have Richardson Police Department Sgt. Kelly Pagel represent Texas LETR members from across the state who support Special Olympics Texas every day!

Today, as the Final Leg Team paddled the torch down the Mississippi River, a number of our Team Texas delegates came to cheer on Sgt. Pagel as she and the rest of the Final Leg Team brought the torch into Minneapolis by way of canoe.
