I’m glad this conversation is finally happening—but why wait? There’s no reason to drag this out through years of bureaucracy. Let doctors, therapists, and patients make these decisions now.

Psilocybin has an incredibly strong safety profile, and MDMA—when used in controlled, therapeutic settings—has shown real promise for treating PTSD and other mental health challenges. These treatments shouldn’t be held back by slow-moving government systems.

Especially for our veterans and those struggling with mental health, access matters. We need to get government out of the way and trust medical professionals and patients to choose what works best for them.

VA launches MDMA-assisted mental health therapy trial https://share.google/1AEotLhXu87uGbVIS

The VA launching MDMA-assisted therapy trials for mental health is great news—especially for our veterans who have sacrificed so much and are still fighting battles long after they come home.
But here’s the reality: North Carolina shouldn’t sit around waiting on a slow, bloated federal government to catch up.
We have one of the largest veteran populations in the country. These men and women deserve access to every effective treatment available—now, not years from now after endless bureaucracy and red tape.

New VA clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of methylenedioxymethamphetamine-assisted therapy, or MDMA-assisted therapy, for the treatment of severe mental health disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorder and alcohol use disorder.

North Carolina is one of the few states still clinging to a government-controlled liquor system—and it shows.
The ABC system limits what you can buy, where you can buy it, and often how much you’ll pay. Want a specific bourbon or craft spirit? Too bad. If the state doesn’t stock it, you’re out of luck. That’s not how a free market should work.
Privatizing liquor sales in NC would mean more choice, better prices, and greater convenience. Private businesses compete for your business—they innovate, expand selection, and improve service. That’s why you can walk into a privately run store in other states and find shelves stocked with products you’ll never see here.
And let’s be honest—the current system isn’t about safety. It’s about control and revenue. The state acts as the middleman, marking up prices and deciding what adults are “allowed” to purchase.
We trust people to make their own decisions in almost every other part of their lives. It’s time to trust them here too.
Let private businesses sell liquor. Let consumers decide what they want. And let’s bring North Carolina into the 21st century with a system that values freedom, competition, and personal responsibility.

Getting the government out of the liquor business would lead to lower prices and more options for people and restaurants, supporters say, while also freeing up millions of dollars for the state to spend on education or other priorities.

North Carolina should remove barriers to people seeking mental health treatment—including the use of psychedelics.

Too many people are struggling, and the current system tells them what they can’t try instead of empowering them to find what actually works. That approach isn’t helping.

There are already steps being taken at the federal level, and it’s good to see movement in that direction. But North Carolina shouldn’t wait—we should lead the way.

If an adult, in consultation with a medical professional, chooses an alternative treatment path, they shouldn’t have to fear arrest or government punishment. Real healthcare means freedom to choose.

We need to move toward a system that respects individual liberty, encourages innovation, and allows safe, responsible access to emerging treatments.

Get government out of the way and let people pursue the care that works best for them.

North Carolina’s multibillion-dollar cannabis marketplace is largely unregulated. An advisory council formed by Democratic Gov. Josh Stein recommends adult-use legalization through licensed retail sales in an effort to improve consumer safety.

A situation like this highlights two important issues: failed drug policy and lack of real options in education.
First, ma*****na laws continue to criminalize behavior that many states have already recognized should be legal. Prohibition doesn’t stop use—it just pushes it underground, where there are no standards, no accountability, and situations like this become more likely. A legal, regulated, free-market approach would take ma*****na out of the shadows, eliminate the black market, and allow law enforcement to focus on real crimes that harm people.
Second, this is also about trust and accountability in our schools. Parents are often forced into a one-size-fits-all system based on their zip code. When something goes wrong, they have little recourse. That’s why school choice matters. When funding follows the student, parents have the power to choose the best environment for their children—public, private, charter, or homeschool. Schools then have to earn that trust every day.
We can do better by embracing freedom and responsibility: Legalize ma*****na and end failed prohibition policies.
Empower parents with real school choice.
Less government control. More accountability. Better outcomes for everyone.

Nothing like seeing Washington D.C. picking and choosing winners and losers.

Banning currently legal products and starting prohibition again is going to fail, but at least folks won't have to pay taxes on them, or have legitimate businesses anymore in North Carolina.
