Our CEO and President, Jason Resendez, was recently interviewed by Scripps News for their series, The Cost of Aging, where he discussed the rising costs of eldercare in the U.S. According to the National Council on Aging, the average cost of assisted living in the U.S. is $54K per year, but it varies widely across states due to factors like real estate, the cost of goods, and state policy choices such as Medicaid expansion.
Jason highlighted some key drivers behind the rising costs, including:
✔️Increased longevity, people living longer, thus requiring more long-term care
✔️Higher rates of chronic diseases adding to healthcare expenses
✔️Access to paid leave policies, which forces family caregivers to juggle work and care responsibilities, often increasing out-of-pocket costs
There are emerging resources to address these challenges:
✔️CMS has introduced health provider payments for caregiver training services
✔️States tax credits that assist with caregiving expenses
✔️Employers offering caregiver resources and services to help workers manage caregiving alongside their jobs
Thank you, Scripps News, for elevating this conversation on your platform.

NATIONAL BRIEFING: Caregivers of Individuals with Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis
Watch the live briefing of A National Study of Caregivers of Individuals with Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis in Washington, D.C.
This groundbreaking new study describes the experiences of more than 700 people who care for someone living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Findings revealed that a significant majority of this unpaid and under-recognized workforce is providing care for 10-20 hours per week; juggling tasks ranging from medical/nursing support, to specialty food preparation and medical and school advocacy -- while working full or part-time. The National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC), the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, ImproveCareNow and researchers from Crimson Research at New Mexico State University (NMSU) worked collaboratively to develop the study. The study was made possible through grant funding from the David R. Clare and Margaret C. Clare Foundation.
