NAMI Marion-Polk is a peer-based, grassroots organization that provides advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives. Volunteers play a vital role in our success and our ability to grow and provide even more free support groups to our mental health community!

We are seeking volunteers with lived experience!

We are looking for volunteers to facilitate our peer or family support groups in Marion/Polk Counties. The commitment is just once a month, once the two day training is complete and NAMI will provide the training.

Learn more about training requirements for our free mental health related programs, support groups, classes and workshops, and how you can be of service to your community!

The importance of connecting to Community
To be a caregiver is to brave challenge after challenge, practicing resilience and strength with little or no recognition. Caregivers don’t need a reminder to care harder. They need tools, support, and resources that help them care for their loved ones and themselves.

This is something we understand deeply at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). NAMI began in 1979 as a small gathering of families looking for answers and treatments for their loved ones and has since evolved into the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. Every day, NAMI helps connect individuals and families to much-needed resources and community through peer-led programs, support groups, and free and confidential HelpLine services.

We want every family caregiver to know one thing: You are not alone. Real help and support, grounded in lived experience, are just a call, text, or email away. All of the trained volunteers who staff the NAMI Family Caregiver HelpLine have walked a similar path and understand what it means to care for a loved one with mental illness. From one caregiver to another, we’re here to listen, share what’s helped us, and help people find a way through. To reach the Family Caregiver HelpLine, call 1-800-950-NAMI (6264) and press 4, or text FAMILY to 62640, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern time. We've been sharing a lot about our upcoming walk on Saturday, May 17th, and all the fun that's coming, but we haven't talked about why we walk and why NAMIWalks Northwest exists.

The walk is much more than a walk-- it's a day to bring our community together and break the stigma against mental health. It's a day to show those who live with a mental illness that they are not alone and that they have a whole community supporting them.

The funds raised at the walk, directly support all of NAMI Oregon's and our affiliate's top-rated programs for years to come. For the last two years, we served over 15,000 individuals through our programming, a number that we are excited to see grow.

This is a direct testament to all of the work YOU put in last few years to make our walk day amazing.

So, thank you, our community members, for all your support.

We hope to see you on Saturday, May 17th at Peninsula Park!

Register for the walk here: www.namiwalks.org/northwest
