The leadership of Taita Taveta County led by Deputy Governor Hon. Christine Kilalo together with the State Department for Housing and Urban Development handed over the site of the Proposed Construction of Voi Modern Market in Voi Sub County.

Delivering H.E Governor Dr. Andrew Mwadime’s message the Deputy Governor advised the Contractor to prioritise local residents and ensure that opportunities benefit the people of Voi and the wider Taita Taveta County.

Leaders present were DCC Voi Sub County, Hon. Abdi Chome MP Voi, CECM Getrude Shuwe, CECM Christine Zighe, Hon. Lawrence Mzugha MCA Mbololo Ward, Hon. Azar Din MCA Kaloleni Ward, Voi Sub County Administrator Mr. Kennedy Mjomba, Voi Municipality Chairman Rev. Godfrey Mwanjulu among other County Officials.

The County Government in partnership with Kenya Devolution Support Program (KDSP) has unveiled plans to construct a state-of-the-art five-storey medical complex at Moi County Referral Hospital (Voi), a transformative project valued at KSh 352 million and scheduled for completion within 18 months.

The proposed development will significantly enhance critical care services by introducing an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), a modern Accident and Emergency Department complete with casualty services and minor theatres, expanded male and female surgical wards with a combined 44-bed capacity, and an on-site medical oxygen plant.

Present during the public participation forum held in Voi Sub County, was H.E Governor Andrew Mwadime, Deputy Governor Hon. Christine Kilalo, CECM Devolution & Public Service Gloria Monikombo, CCO Devolution & Public Service Nashon Nyali, County Government Staff and residents from Voi Sub County.

H.E. Governor Andrew Mwadime - Wakujaa reiterate that his efforts to engage different stakeholders, state and non-state actors have now started bearing fruits emphasizing the project is a direct response to the needs and aspirations of the people of Taita Taveta.

It was a somber moment earlier today in Voi Sub County when the Sofia Community, and leaders led by H.E Governor Andrew Mwadime bid farewell to one of the galant daughter of the soil first female soccer referee in Taita Taveta Mama Nia Mumba. She was described by many as a fierce human rights defender notably on matters land grabbing and historical injustices of the people of Voi Sub County. H.E Governor Wakujaa urged leaders to emulate her exemplary leadership of selfless service to the people. May her soul rest in eternal peace

Voi Sub County hosted Public and Ministries Inter-Ministerial Choir Committee (PAMICCO) which was on a 3 day tour in Taita Taveta County. The team led by renowned Choir Master Mwalimu Thomas Wesonga visited Voi Prison and lifted the spirits of prisoners with Christmas carols and patriotic songs leaving them with hearts full of hope and a reminder that everybody deserves love, care, and psychosocial support. Later the team visited Tumaini Children home in Ikanga Village and interacted with less fortunate children.

Present was H.E Christine Kilalo Deputy Governor, CECM Devolution, Public Service & Administration Gloria Monikombo, CECM Trade, Tourism & Culture Getrude Shuwe, Voi Sub County Administrator among other leaders. PAMICCO is a national ensemble that uses music to promote unity, patriotism, and social goodwill across communities

The Department of Devolution Public Service and Administration is in the process of reviewing and Implementation of Community Action Plan on Violent Extremism in the County. This plan aims to address the root causes of extremism, promote social cohesion, and enhance community resilience.

A stakeholder meeting was held in Voi Sub County which brought together National Association Of Retired Police Officers (NARPOK) Taita Taveta County Chapter led by Former GSU Commander Mr. Lawrence Mwadime, Mrs Agnes Mwamburi of Integrating Development Towards Guiding Parenthood (IDGP), Sub County Administrators from Voi, Wundanyi & Taveta Sub Counties. Present was Principal Administrator and Assistant Director Enforcement Mr. Darius Soweni.

The objective of the meeting was to;
1. Prevent radicalization: Identify and address factors leading to radicalization.
2. Promote social cohesion: Foster dialogue, understanding, and peaceful coexistence among communities.
3. Support vulnerable groups : Provide support and alternatives to individuals at risk of radicalization.

Mr Lawrence Mwadime reiterated that “collaboration between the County Government and non state actors are key to prevent and counter violent extremism, and promote a safer and more resilient in Taita Taveta County.”

In line with H.E Governor Dr. Andrew Mwadime’s commitment in ensuring optimum Revenue collection in the County Government of Taita Taveta. The Department of Finance and Economic Planning has began the Revenue mapping exercise in Voi Sub County across all the six Wards of Ngolia, Mbololo, Kaloleni, Sagala, Marungu & Kasigau. The objective of the exercise is to:
1. Identify Revenue Streams
2. Understand County Revenue Drivers
3. Assess Financial Performance & Contribution of each revenue streams.
4. Enable Strategic Decision-Making to provide insights that support data-driven decisions related to pricing, marketing, investments, and resource allocation.
5. Identify Growth Opportunities (Uncover potential areas for expansion, new markets)
6. Support Compliance and Reporting.

This exercise will ensure transparent financial reporting and adherence to accounting & regulatory standards by clearly mapping how revenue is recognized. I am calling upon all stakeholders to accord our Enumerators necessary support to make this exercise a success. This exercise is also taking place in other Sub Counties of Mwatate, Wundanyi & Taveta.

Today, Tausa Division hosted the Voi Sub County Mashujaa celebrations. As patriots we gathered with hundreds of Kenyans to celebrate Mashujaa Day to collectively honor all those who contributed towards Kenya’s independence and most importantly honored The Late Rt Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga former Prime Minister for his contribution in advocating for multiparty democracy, promulgating the birth of the new constitution which entrenched devolution in our governance system.

As we commemorate this significant day, we are reminded of Raila Odinga's words: "Of what value is a powerful office if its pursuit must cost lives and tear the country apart every five years?”

Condolence Message on the Passing of Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga

It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we have learnt of the passing of Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, a distinguished statesman, patriot, and pillar of Kenya’s democracy.

On behalf of the people of Voi Sub County, and on my own behalf, I extend heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Rt. Hon. Odinga.

Rt. Hon. Odinga’s lifelong dedication to justice, unity, and democratic ideals has left an indelible mark on our nation and the African continent. His courage, wisdom, and selfless service will continue to inspire generations to come.

May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may the Almighty grant comfort and strength to his family and all who mourn him.

ADDRESS BY THE COUNTY GOVERNOR TO THE COUNTY ASSEMBLY

The County Assembly of Taita Taveta wishes to notify the public and members of the media that the County Governor, H.E Andrew Mwadime, will address the County Assembly on Wednesday, 8th October 2025, from 2:30 p.m.

This address will be issued pursuant to Standing Order No. 22(1) of the Taita Taveta County Assembly Standing Orders (2nd Edition, 2025).

The session will be held in the County Assembly Chambers, Wundanyi, and will be open to the public and covered by the media in accordance with Assembly protocols.

H.E Governor Dr. Andrew Mwadime had the privilege of joining my fellow governors at a CoG meeting where a new leadership team was elected.

He congratulate H.E. FCPA Ahmed Abdullahi (Wajir County) on his re-election as Chairperson, H.E. Dr. Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri County) as Vice Chairperson, and H.E. Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi County) as Whip. Highlighting the Leadership as instrumental in driving the Council’s agenda forward.

He reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with the new leadership to advance the interests of the people of Taita Taveta County and strengthen the broader devolution framework.

He reiterated that together, his Administration will continue build a resilient county, promoting accountability, and ensuring that devolution delivers tangible benefits to all Kenyans.
