While occupied Thomas Square, Oʻahu, with the rest of our kaiāulu in observation of Lā Hoʻihoʻi Ea, our Sovereignty Restoration Day, two of our members occupied Time Square, New York, as delegates to conclude the inaugural People’s Summit for Korea, calling for the end to the US occupation of their land:
“THE KOREAN WAR HAS NEVER ENDED
July 27th marks the anniversary of Armistice Day, when he US and North Korea signed a military agreement that established a ceasefire of the Korean War that is still in effect to this day. Over 70 years since the signing of the armistice, the war continues and the Korean people still do not have true sovereignty.
The US continues to occupy our land, enforce deadly sanctions on North Korea, and escalate military aggression hrough war drills every year. From Korea to Palestine, we know a ceasefire alone does not bring true peace.
For decades, North and South Korea have attempted diplomacy to end the Korean War, but these efforts have ailed due to US intervention. The US manufactures war tensions through its military occupation of South Korea and economic sanctions against North Korea.
[July 27th] also marks one year since we launched our campaign to get the US Out of Korea. Together, we will some together and move forward in the movement for the lational liberation of Korea: towards anti-imperialism as the necessary path to Korea’s full and lasting liberation. Join us n the streets on this historic day and fight for a world built an a life-giving system.
Toojeng!” -
It was an honor to be invited to attend this summit. It was a privilege that they recognize the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi during roll call. It made us want to cry when they chanted “End the occupation in Hawaiʻi!” alongside other places like Palestine, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Cuba, Venezuela, and so many more occupied nations. This is what true international solidarity looks & feels like.
From Hawaiʻi to Korea
End the occupation!
US OUT OF EVERYWHERE!
