Online shopping makes holiday gift buying convenient especially with delivery to your front door. This front door service is also convenient for thieves to take your package, which is commonly referred to as โ€œporch pirates.โ€

Here are some tips to reduce the chances of a porch pirate making off with your online order.

1. Pay attention to tracking information and if possible, be home or have someone you trust pick up your package after it is delivered.

2. Have your orders sent to your place of employment if they will allow it or have the delivery company hold on to it for you.

3. Choose the "sign for release" option of delivery. That way, the delivery service has to hand your delivery to a person.

4. Utilize keyless home entry access from shipping or merchant logistic services along with video surveillance camera.

If you are a victim of a theft, report it to law enforcement. If you have surveillance cameras, share that footage with law enforcement too. Check with your neighbors to see if they have surveillance cameras and if they would have any footage around the time of theft. Keep your porch well-lit. A well-lit porch may help your neighbor keep an eye out for thieves.

One of the biggest things to emphasize is to be a good neighbor and watch out for each other. Keep an eye out for suspicious activity such as cars following delivery trucks or casing neighborhoods. If you see people taking packages or any suspicious activity, report it immediately to the Montgomery County Sheriffโ€™s Office (936) 760-5800, option 3.

9-1-1 vs Non-Emergency Calls

9-1-1 vs Non-Emergency Calls

9-1-1 vs Non-Emergency Calls

There are two ways that you can contact the Montgomery County Sheriffโ€™s Office: by dialing 9-1-1 or by calling our non-emergency phone number (936)760-5800 opt 3. Both of these lines are answered at the Montgomery County Sheriffโ€™s Office Communications Division but they should not be used interchangeably. To put it simply, 9-1-1 should be used during emergencies while the non-emergency line should be used in non-emergency situations. If you are not sure which number to call, below is some general information to assist you with making the right choice.

When should I call 9-1-1?

9-1-1 is the number to dial for in-progress crimes or when an emergency response is needed by police, fire, or EMS.

When should I text 9-1-1?

Call if you can, text only if you can't. If dialing 9-1-1 is not an option during an emergency, a text message from an SMS enabled cell phone can be placed. You cannot send pictures, video, emojiโ€™s, or group texts. Do not use abbreviations or slang. Texting is for emergencies only, and only when placing a voice call is not an option.

When should I call non-emergency?

A "Non-Emergency" call is simply a request for the service of Law Enforcement, Fire, or EMS that is not a life-or-death situation.

What should I expect when calling 9-1-1?

A 9-1-1 "Call Taker" will answer your call by identifying themselves and will then ask you to give the phone number from where you are calling.

Even while you are talking, an officer is already on the way. Try to remain calm and answer all the Call Taker's questions.

DO NOT HANG UP! It is very important that the Call Taker gets all the necessary information about the emergency and the suspects. Stay on the line until the Call Taker tells you to disconnect.

Questions you may be asked by the Call Taker:
1. Location of the emergency?
2. Specify what kind of emergency: police, fire and/or medical.
3. What happened?
4. When did it happen?
5. Tell the operator what you have seen or heard. Try not to exaggerate the situation.
6. Is anyone injured?
7. Suspect description?
8. How many suspects?
9. Vehicle description?
10. License plate number?
11. Suspects direction of travel?
12. Did you see any weapons?
13. Your name and telephone number?

Montgomery County Sheriffโ€™s Office Arrests Four Burglary Suspects in The Woodlands

Way to go!

MCTXSheriff Arrests Four Burglary Suspects in The Woodlands

On October 20, 2023, at approximately 11:00 pm, Montgomery County Sheriffโ€™s Office Deputies from the District 6 Office, received a call reporting several suspicious persons pulling on car door handles in the area of Research Forest Drive in The Woodlands, Texas. While responding, Deputies were informed there was a suspicious vehicle in a nearby residential gated community. Deputies quickly converged to the area and found a vehicle that matched the description. Deputies made contact with the suspect at this time and located multiple tools in the vehicle commonly used for burglarizing vehicles. Three additional suspects were later located at a Timewise gas station on Research Forest Dr.

Four suspects, all from Humble, Texas, were identified as Anthony Hunter (18), Eddrick Runnels (20), Xavier Mitchell (19), and a Juvenile were placed in custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail where they are being charged with burglary of a vehicle, a class A misdemeanor. All three adult suspects are currently out on bond through Harris County Sheriffโ€™s Office.

Sheriff Rand Henderson: I am so proud of The Woodlands Deputies for their work on this case. This incident highlights the importance of collaboration between the community and our Deputies working together. I want to reiterate, we will not tolerate this type of behavior in Montgomery County.

Knowing how to protect yourself and your property, and joining with your neighbors and law enforcement to make your neighborhood safer can reduce the opportunity for crime. Getting involved and taking responsibility for your neighborhood should be your first priority. The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services, in collaboration with law enforcement, gives all residents the tools they need for a safe and secure neighborhood.

Way to go Montgomery County Sheriff's Office!

MCTXSheriff Arrests Three for Burglary of Habitation

On October 2, 2023, at around 10:00 pm, Montgomery County Sheriffโ€™s Office Deputies were dispatched to a suspicious persons call in the neighborhood of South Tranquil Path, The Woodlands, Texas. While en route deputies were given a description of the actor's vehicle.

Deputies assigned to The Woodlands Township patrol division quickly located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop. During the stop, Deputies witnessed tools that are commonly used during burglaries, as well as a backpack with jewelry and personal items that belonged to another person. Through the course of their investigation, Deputies were able to tie these three suspects to two burglaries in the area. All stolen items were returned to the rightful owners.

The three suspects, identified as Orlando Barreto age 22, Joanny Rojas Nunez age 30, and Anthony Jimenez age 28, were transported to the Montgomery County Jail where they are being charged with Burglary of a Habitation, a second-degree felony, and are placed on Immigration hold.

On October 2, 2023, at approximately 2:30 am, MCTXSheriff Deputies received a call reporting a burglary of a vehicle near the intersection of Golden Sage Drive and Sylvan Forest Drive in The Woodlands, Texas. While responding, Deputies were informed that there were several suspects who were breaking into multiple vehicles and left in a dark-colored sedan. Deputies quickly converged in the area and found a vehicle that matched the given description. A traffic stop was conducted in which Deputies observed four suspects in the vehicle who were holding the stolen items.

Three adult suspects, all from Spring, Texas, were identified as Ethan Lemoine (18), Parker Finton (18), and Tristan Gayneaux (18), were placed in custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail where they are being charged with burglary of a vehicle, a class A misdemeanor.
