This journey did not begin on July 1. Since I first started in Rotary, I have watched, listened, learned from leaders across our district, and worked to understand the dynamics, strengths, challenges, and heart of who we are. I stepped into this role knowing that leadership is not just about holding a title. It is about building trust, creating connection, showing up, and helping people believe in what is possible together.
This year, my goal was connection and engagement.
Over the years, I have seen the strengths of our district, and I have also heard the concerns. I have heard people express that they felt disconnected, tired, uncertain, or even apathetic about where Rotary was going. That is why connection and engagement mattered so much to me this year.
I wanted people to feel Rotary again. I wanted members to see possibility, not just responsibility. I wanted clubs to feel supported, not isolated. I wanted leaders to feel encouraged, not alone. And I wanted our district to begin moving with more energy, more willingness, and more shared ownership of what comes next.
Together, we made that real.
Across the district, I had the privilege of completing 70 in-person official club visits. Through the Passport Program, we saw more than 300 visits to clubs beyond membersâ home clubs. We strengthened youth programs, launched new Interact clubs, created more intentional leadership touchpoints, and continued to ask how we could strengthen not only our numbers, but also our sense of belonging and engagement.
We also saw Rotary in action in measurable ways. Our District Day of Service represented more than 4,500 hours of service. During Foundation Month, 206 members participated and helped raise $35,000 in 30 days. Held an Business networking event called Rotary Means Business. We ended the year with a net membership gain. We created a District Mini Grant Program to help support needs and club impact during the government food stamp disruption. We also created a Rotarian of the Quarter Program to show gratitude and recognize Rotarians who are serving, leading, and making a difference.
Across the district, I attended club meetings, service projects, celebrations, fundraisers, trainings, and district events. I watched clubs step up in powerful ways. I watched members serve quietly and faithfully. I watched new ideas take shape, new partnerships form, and new energy begin to move through our district.
And then we came together at District Conference --- DisCon26.
The conference was not just a weekend event. It was a reflection of the year we built together. We had service, learning, recognition, business, youth engagement, meaningful conversations, friendship, laughter, and yes, a packed dance floor. We supported The Rotary Foundation through moments of generosity with a Paddle raise game. Close to 200 people gathered at Seven Springs, and there was something for everyone. We had pasta cooking class, line dancing, District Rotary business meeting and more.
Looking around and seeing people from across the district enjoying one another, celebrating one another, and simply being together. That is what belonging looks like. That is what connection looks like. That is what Rotary can feel like when we make room for everyone.
Serving as District Governor has been a time I will always treasure. I do not take lightly the meaning of serving as the first Black District Governor for District 7305, including our former District 7300 history, representation matters. I also do not take lightly the responsibility of leading during a time when Rotary, like many organizations, is being asked to grow, adapt, and think differently.
This year was not perfect. Leadership never is. But it was meaningful. It was full. It was active. It was built on service, courage, connection, and the belief that our district still has so much more ahead.
My hope is that every leader after me is stronger, more prepared, and able to take this district even further. Which is why I started meeting with the DG line throughout the year. That is how we know the district is growing. Leadership should create momentum, not dependency. It should open doors for the next person to build higher, reach further, and bring even more people into the work.
To every club president, assistant governor, committee chair, district leader, Rotarian, Rotaractor, Interactor, earlyactor, volunteer, sponsor, and friend of Rotary who showed up this year thank you.

Thank you for your encouragement.
Thank you for your honesty.
Thank you for your willingness to keep moving Rotary forward.

My hope is that we do not see this year as an ending, but as momentum.
