This weekend is a marathon of art and music, starting with artist Kris Stewart’s marvelous experimental cyanotypes and clever dimensional art books. She visited the Pressroom recently to knock out some golden haiku on blue cyanotype stock for a peice in the show, and we can’t wait to see the finished work. The artist reception is Friday from 4-6 PM .

In the opposite direction the Bluegrass Jam is hosted in Dayton this week, and as you know, their Bobcat Room always has stellar cocktails at the ready. As you’re rolling back into Waitsburg, you’ll find Karaoke just beginning at .waitsburg .

A Maker’s materials/Artist supplies themed Vintage Market is on this weekend .dukeandremington Friday through Sunday, and the entire town of Waitsburg will be having a Community Yard Sale on Saturday. Pick up a copy of the Waitsburg Times for the map! Also, donation drop-off hours to support WHS are Thu/Fri 6-8PM at the Bruce Museum.

Swing into for a flight of RYZO and a restorative snack after hunting treasure on Saturday afternoon. Chad and Cari Honsinger will be pouring their latest Alpine style wines. Art Talk with begins at 6PM featuring the work ‘Blue Fields’ by Matthew Klein— the artist will join the conversation via Zoom from New York. 21+

You can bet there will be a carpooling caravan from Art Talk straight to for the second gig + Robert Gomez Saturday night. Advance tickets $10 on their website. 21+ See you there!

OBSERVED: Mikkelsen Barn (a.k.a. The Big Red Barn of Bluegrass Jam fame) making a bit of a splash for the Vernacular Architecture Forum tour last Thursday. For those unfamiliar, VAF is a national organization of architecture preservation scholars, and Mikkelsen Barn just underwent a multi-year painstaking restoration. The conference was held at with tours of notable sites throughout the region. It’s hard to imagine a higher compliment to the blood, sweat and tears of a challenging renovation than a busload of VAF conference-goers pulling up to your barn…

We have the perfect relaxed intro to summer for you this weekend. Friday the BLUEGRASS JAM is in the TVAMP space, and if you tilt your head just right you can catch a distant tune from the Royal Block’s patio seats— mosey on over after you finish your tapas and wine. FARMER’S MARKET kicks off in Preston Park Saturday morning with 15 vendors this year! If you’re clever, you’ll pack a book and a blanket, and find a place to laze in the shade afterwards. Further afield, DAYTON ART WALK VOLUME 2 is in play. Also, THE SHEEP DETECTIVES is on at the Liberty Theater with all the usual showtimes. If you don’t go for the sheep, go for the rest of the all-star cast. Rated PG

Tuesday evening we have ‘International Bluegrass Music Association - Male Vocalist of the Year’, GREG BLAKE in the neighborhood for a concert at the Plaza Theater. Tickets are going fast on EventBrite and online sales end on the 31st, so tick-tock, get them while you can!

In other news for thespians of all ages, auditions for the 2026 FALL PRODUCTION: THE WIZARD OF OZ at Liberty Theater begin this week. Kids 5-14 are up June 1 at 6PM and Adults are June 3 at 6PM. Makeup auditions are on June 4 at 6PM— don’t forget to pack the green foundation and some sparkles.

Friends, beyond the usual Waitsburg fun, we have exactly ONE very fun event scheduled within the city limits of Waitsburg this weekend, and we can’t wait!

TONGUE + GROOVE returns with Kerry’s Trinidad Cuisine from 4-8PM. The food truck will be accessible to the community curbside on Main Street. Fine beverages and other nosh available at the bar. At 7PM the amazing Michael Kelly Band starts their jazzy blues grooves. No Cover 21+

If you’d rather play along, head south to Walla Walla’s Marriott Hotel Friday night for the weekly BLUEGRASS JAM. In the mood for a parade? Head east for DAYTON DAYS. If you time it just right, you can duck into the Liberty Theater Saturday from 11AM-1PM and watch some antique film footage of the BROUGHTON FAMILY FILM. For those more fashion forward, hold out for the DEVIL WEARS PRADA with normal showtimes throughout the weekend.

Friends, the big weekend is almost here, so gas up the ATV, get your events Registration Form in, and rest up, because this weekend will be non-stop fun! For all of the details and access to one-stop registration and event tickets, head to waitsburgcd.com.

For the kiddos, we have Bad Guys 2 showing at Plaza Theater Friday evening, pre-parade Face Painting Saturday morning, Kid’s Parade at 9:30, Ice Cream Social at the Bruce Museum, horsey-themed Woodcraft at Simply Sawdust, Friends of the Library’s irresistible ‘Things That Go’ big rigs and story times on the north end of Main Street, the ATV Poker Ride, and they’re even invited to dinner (but not the brews) at Burgers Bands & Brews.

For 21+ crowd, look to the Corn Hole Tournament at Preston Park for some good clean competition, food trucks and beer garden on Friday night, hit the Bluegrass Jam at Wolfling Coffee for some toe-tapping Americana, or go for a relaxed Sunset ATV Historical Cruise. There’s a whole string of fun events on Saturday, from the Auto Show in Preston Park, high-octane fun at Karen’s Memorial ATV Poker Ride, new releases from Waitsburg-grown Dona Stella Wine at the Royal Block, to dancing the night away with the Back Roads Band from 8-11PM at Burgers, Bands & Brews.

The Fairgrounds is the place to be on Sunday with a Fun Run, Cowboy Church, Luck of the Duck, Softball, and Inflatable Games and Obstacle Course complete with a Temporary Tattoo Station.

Also, keep your eyes out for painted rocks along the way— they’re redeemable for $5 credit at participating Waitsburg merchants this weekend.

Friends, the lineup of events is short and sweet this week, but Waitsburg is long on options for Mothers Day gifting and celebrations. Whether you’re gift-hunting for your own Mom, the person who stepped in to be the Mom you needed, Moms giving their whole hearts to raising their fur-babies right, or your bestie rocking her new parenting gig, we have wonderful options.

Of special note is the MOTHERS DAY AFTERNOON TEA event, May 10, 3-5PM . Tickets are $45 from their website, and includes unlimited tea alongside petite tea sandwiches and delicate pastries. There is limited seating by reservation only, so don’t delay.
