At the end of the Business Meeting today SAR State Membership Conference, the Education Committee 2019-20 began planning for their programs. In this photo is the three committee members, David Smith President SC CAR and Regional VP Piedmont, Doug Doster Past President of SC SAR and Regional VP Midland, and Matthew Breen, President Pawleys Island Conway Chapter and Regional VP P*e Dee. The object this year is to achieve more participants in middle schools for the poster contest. Each Reg VP represents four chapters that they Liaison with during the year.
The topic has already been selected for next school year and will be advertised in the state newsletter magazine after May.
The topic is a Battle that the state CAR is raising money for, so they are aware of it. Now more than half of the state chapters will be too through the 3 Reg VPs.
Theme is: Battle of Buffords Massacre or Waxhaw.
Stay tune for progress in this program and others like Brochure Contest, Teacher of the Year, Ben Franklin Reading Program.

It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of one of our most distinguished members. Ronald J. Horton went to his eternal reward January 1, 2019. Compatriot Horton was born March 5, 1926 and lived his life to the fullest. Ron was a WWII and Korean War veteran who earned the Bronze Star and Army Commendation medals among many other awards. He was heavily involved with every level of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a charter member of our Chapter and a Past President. He held many positions in the South Carolina Society and was South Carolina Society President. At the National level, Compatriot Horton was Vice President General and National Flag Chairman. He was a recipient of nearly every award the SAR has to offer and even was a recipient of the Minuteman Award (Class of 2002). Ron will be sorely missed but his memory lives on in all the lives he touches in a positive manner.
