Atlantic Quest is Northward bound!

The Sappers from Corps of Royal Engineers are beginning their homeward journey after 21 weeks at sea, travelling from the UK to South Georgia, via Lanzarote, Rio de Janeiro and the Falkland Islands. Rough seas and cold conditions make for a testing challenge, where the crew are tightly packed onto the Challenge 72 yacht and constantly having to be alert. The expedition saw the Sappers disembark at South Georgia to conduct quality Winter and Alpine Mountaineering in some of the most remote glaciers in the world, reaching challenging heights in challenging conditions.

Atlantic Quest is an exemplary expedition, requiring all soldiers to practice the British Army's values and standards in order to push themselves to their mental and physical limits. The adventurers will learn much about resilience and teamwork as they face each challenge.

"Join the British Army and see the world" 🌍

DEMS Training Regiment has returned from their Summer Mountaineering Expedition, EX TIGER TATRA, in Poland and Slovakia.

The team summited the famous Geiwont (1890m) and Slavskovsky Stit (2430m).

SSgt Berry, a Mountain Leader, organised this expedition. This is his first time taking on this responsibility, having only delivered training prior to this.

"It has benefited me in understanding the whole organising process, and a lot of do's and don'ts. Having been only a group member on my first expedition and MLT on the following two."

The expedition attendees also visited Auschwitz Concentration Camp, as part of their cultural visit.

We all love a post-event cuppa, so what's different about this?

The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst Officer Cadets attend ALeRT week at the end of Term 1, to experience Adventurous Training and how it can be an aid to self-development through Adventurous Leadership and Resilience Training (ALeRT).

Our Rock climbing Single pitch Foundation (RSF) (pictured) course took place at Inverness, where OCdts were using the climbing wall to learn fundamental climbing skills.

Post-event, OCdts conduct a review of their training and are encouraged to reflect on their actions during challenging moments. This helps the individual to understand how they act under pressure, which is transferrable to their leadership training at Sandhurst.

Fish are friends! 🐠

EX DRAGON DIVE took 12 Regular and Reserve personnel to Malta, which took novice divers to the next level of their training.

This expedition qualified our divers with British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC), and aims to get them to Sports Diver level. All participants already have a minimum of Ocean Diver qualifications, of which can be completed at our Stoney Cove centre.

ALPCON 2023 has just returned from Realp in Switzerland, after another year of Alpine Mountaineering training.

Army Adventurous Training run annual concentration courses, designed for all levels of AT - from beginner to advanced. In addition to the Army, it is also open to members from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

ALPCON is a 3-week concentration, which focuses on both instructors and students. Week 1 allows instructors to adjust to altitude and refresh their knowledge, followed by week 2 and 3 which hosts students with a wide range of experience.

The courses allow students to train for qualifications, or simply gain Quality Mountaineering Days if they have previously obtained qualifications.
