Four members of the Regt have recently passed the notorious Jungle Warfare Instructor’s Course. 9 gruelling weeks of basic soldiering in the jungle and rivers of Brunei.

The course covered everything from basic survival and fieldcraft up to offensive actions at Platoon level. Different methods of insertion were used from Helicopter abseiling to using boats in the Close Country Tropical Environment (CCTE).

Good effort to all four!

The airfield underwent the first operational runway repair conducted by British forces since the Falklands conflict in 1982:

Major Mark Borley, Officer Commanding 51 Parachute Squadron RE, said:
The works to the runway were conducted at night and in challenging conditions, but the team’s work provided a real boost to military aircrew confidence when landing, allowing our aircraft to operate safely and get vulnerable people to safety.

The work was hot and demanding. But fulfilling a role which for which we train hard alongside a significant number of other stakeholders was incredibly rewarding, particularly on operations and in support of vulnerable people. I am extremely proud of the team; their determination and professionalism was superb and their success has made a real difference.

23 Parachute Engineer Regiment deployed from the UK to Sudan in support of the UK Joint Task Force to conduct urgent airfield damage repair at Wadi Sayyidna. The airfield was being used by multiple nations to evacuate Entitled Personnel and was in a poor state of repair, further exacerbated by the high tempo of heavy, multinational military transport aircraft.

The work, led by OC 51 Parachute Squadron, is the first time Combat Engineer Airfield Damage Repair has been conducted on Operations since the Falklands War. It enabled the continued evacuation of UK and other nations’ Entitled Personnel via military aircraft, following continued conflict within the country.

They repaired the runway between aircraft take-off and landings, often working at night so as not to disrupt the evacuation efforts. They were deployed as part of the Air Manoeuvre Task and deployment to Wadi Sayyidna with 40 CDO Royal Marines supported by personnel from and with reach-back support from 11 Group RAF and 529 Specialist Team Royal Engineers (Air Support).

We've been on a battlefield study to look at Airborne exploits in France, we've experimented with kit, buckets, rafts, demolition wire, conducted complex obstacle crossings on terrible terrain, at night and we've completed a Counter-Mobilty planning exercise in the local towns.

This week has seen personnel from the Regiment complete week 2 of the pre conditioning programme. So far the course has involved TABs (running with Bergans), speed plays, circuit training, strength training and 'tactical PT' including stretcher races.

The 8 week programme has been designed to ensure successful candidates have received the correct amount of physical conditioning prior to attending All Arms Pre-Parachute Selection (AAPPS) AKA P Company. Candidates who successfully complete P Company will then progress on to the Basic Parachute Course; earning them their wings.

23 Parachute Engineer Regiment conducting core air skills today
As the Regiment continues to prepare for operations, exercises and readiness, our Sappers are still finding opportunities to take advantage of Army sport.

Congratulations to Sprs D-P, H and F from 51 Para Sqn for their podium places at the Army Jujitsu Championships. The Regiment also had two players representing the Corps Water-Polo team as their preparations for the Inter-Corps Championships continue.
Final trophy and victory for the Regiment's X-Country team, dominating the major unit competition at the RE X-Country Championships. We had the 2nd and 3rd finishers overall and 4 Airborne Sappers in the top 10! Well done to Spr O for winning the under 23 competition.
Sappers from 23 Para Engr Regt took part in Ex EAGLE HELM, which saw them brave the icy winds over 5 days sailing in the Solent, gaining a Competent Crew qualification and experience to progress on to Dayskipper and Yachtmaster.

What a week it has been for the Regiment's Sports Teams!

Spr W and LCpl P were representing the Army Under 23 Rugby and Army Hockey Teams respectively, the X-Country team secured the Brigade, Londist and Midlands titles, the AGC Det won their Corps Relay Championships and the BAWF team secured a win at the first Midlands League Event of the year!

Sport is vitally important to the Regiment and its soldiers and we pride ourselves on our sporting achievements over the last year.
Ex Eagle Volcano Day 2

The focus of the next training serial was medical.

Personnel from designed a package which added realism to our sappers training.

Focusing on what we need to know, our Sappers got hands on with organs and were introduced to medical training in a CBRN environment.

Last week the Regt deployed on Ex Eagle Volcano.

A four day training package designed to bring MATTs to life and develop the Regts innovation ideas.

The first day was centred around SERE. The sappers learnt valuable survival skills that can now be developed and inspire future training.

Thank you to for the training.

Over the next few days we will post images of our medical, CBRN and demolitions training that also took place.

Congratulations to Spr Woollard on his selection for the next U23’s inter services game.

A fantastic achievement and the best of luck to bring the title home.

In November 51 Parachute Squadron RE , reinforced by personnel from completed a demanding combat engineer exercise at - being tested on bridging, mine clearance, amphibious drills, CCBRN, bridge demolition and more 💪🔷 🆎.
Woodbridge Station stood alongside local communities across Suffolk in the Act of Remembrance. Both 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment and 28 (C-CBRN) Engineer Regiment marched through Woodbridge Town before a service at the Town Council.
