On Friday, we had a wonderful time celebrating our 2025 poll workers at the Poll Worker Appreciation Event with Secretary Thomas.

Secretary Thomas honored the incredible dedication of those who have served over 20 years with a certificate, as well as those who have completed over 10 years of service.

As we commemorate International Women’s Day, let us recognize and celebrate the countless women in our community, across the state, and across the country who dedicate their time and energy to serve as election officials and poll workers. Women outnumber men nearly two to one in these essential roles, highlighting their commitment to ensuring a smooth and accessible voting experience for everyone.

These dedicated women often serve as the first point of contact for voters, providing support and guidance at polling places. They help simplify the voting process, answer questions, and ensure that every voice can be heard. Their contributions not only strengthen our communities but also inspire future generations of women to engage in public service.

In February 2026, the Connecticut General Assembly passed emergency legislation (SB 298) that makes several updates to how elections are administered in our state. It now awaits the governor's signature.

Everything we do in the Registrar of Voters office is dictated by statute, and when the law changes, our procedures must change as well.

Key updates include:
• Early voting ballots must now be inserted directly into tabulators.
• The timing of Logic & Accuracy testing has been adjusted.
• Referendum ballots are not subject to FOI, consistent with election ballots.
• Month of birth is no longer subject to FOI.

Today, our office met with registrars from across Connecticut to review these changes and begin discussing implementation. We will also be awaiting additional guidance from the Secretary of the State.

Elections are not static. Laws evolve every year, and ongoing training ensures we continue administering elections accurately, securely, and in full compliance with state law.

Each year, Connecticut law requires the Registrars of Voters to conduct the Annual Canvass to help keep Brookfield’s voter rolls accurate. The canvass runs January through April.

Our office mails Confirmation of Voter Residence letters to certain Brookfield voters based on information from:
• NCOA (National Change of Address): shows when someone files a change of address with the U.S. Postal Service
• ERIC (Electronic Registration Information Center): a secure, multi-state system that helps identify voters who may have moved, passed away, or registered in another state

Letters may also be sent to Brookfield voters who have not voted in the past four years (two federal elections), as permitted by law.

If you receive a letter from the Brookfield Registrars of Voters, please fill it out, sign it, and return it to our office. This helps keep your voter registration accurate and makes for a smoother voter experience at the polls.

If you are registered in Connecticut's Address Confidentiality Program because you are a survivor of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, you can vote safely and confidentially in the state. Your name will appear on the voting list at your town hall, but your address will remain hidden, and you can vote by absentee ballot if you think going to your polling place is a risk. Applications for the program must be submitted through an approved Application Assistant, such as a certified victim advocate or counselor.
