Proud to stand with leaders from the Eaton Fire Collaborative and fire survivors to advocate for my budget request of $25 million to create a Community Aid for Rebuilding and Equity (CARE) Fund. This would help prevent the permanent displacement of long-time Altadena residents due to the Eaton Fire through gap funding support and preservation of affordable housing for the most under-resourced fire survivors.

This funding is needed as corporate investors are buying almost 50% of post-fire properties, compared to 10% before the fire.

With the naturally occurring affordable housing depleted and scarcity driving up prices, many long-time Altadena renters fear they’ll never be able to return to their community. CARE is intended to address critical gaps in post-disaster recovery for residents most severely at risk of displacement due to the Eaton Fire.

I want to thank the California Community Foundation for agreeing to partner with us as potential administrators of this fund and helping push for this request in Sacramento.

On this day in 1963, the Equal Pay Act was signed into law by President John F. Kennedy amending the Fair Labor Standards Act. This labor law prohibits sex-based wage discrimination by mandating people of different genders in the same workplace receive equal pay for substantially equal jobs requiring similar skill, effort and responsibility.
California also has an Equal Pay Act. You can learn about California’s law at

Congratulations to Nicole and Michael Wirth on the rebuilding of their home! I had the incredible honor of handing the Wirths their new keys, thanks to the dedicated staff from Rebuild Altadena who put this celebration together. After relocating 15 times since losing their home in the Eaton Fire, the Wirths and their two dogs, Butters and Porkchop, were finally able to move in and gather with friends, family and a joyous community welcoming another family back to Altadena. May their future in this home be filled with joy, laughter, peace and countless new memories for years to come.

Amid multiple reports of immigrant detainees in the Adelanto ICE Processing Center facing retaliation for protesting the facility’s inhumane conditions, I am calling for an investigation by the California Department of Justice.

Detainees at Adelanto have been engaged in a hunger strike. On June 1, they received a visit from members of Congress where they described the facility’s unhealthy and neglectful conditions. Following that meeting, several detainees reported facing severe retaliation including solitary confinement, lockdowns, threats of transfer, and the denial of basic necessities such as water and electricity.

I am also demanding The GEO Group, Inc. immediately end the inhumane treatment taking place at Adelanto and across the broader system of immigration detention facilities it operates, and that it open its detention centers to state and local inspectors, including elected representatives to allow meaningful monitoring of the conditions inside.

The new commitment from Wells Fargo will help LA County wildfire survivors recover. Wells Fargo is extending mortgage forbearance up to an additional 12 months for a total of 27 months for customers directly impacted by the January 2025 wildfires. Attention Altadena Businesses:
The new “Shop Local Marketing Lab+” initiative is a free business support program designed to help Altadena small businesses impacted by the Eaton Fire rebuild their visibility, strengthen their customer base, and accelerate their economic recovery. The initiative is led by the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) and supported through partnerships with Google and SoCal Grantmakers.

Through June 8, 2026, eligible Altadena businesses can enroll in the free program and receive individualized marketing support tailored to their specific needs. Services will continue through the summer of 2026.

The Shop Local Marketing Lab+ offers participating businesses access to two categories of support: enhancing digital presence and improving physical storefront visibility.

Eligible businesses must be located and operating in Altadena, demonstrate financial impact from the Eaton Fire, operate from a brick-and-mortar commercial location, and meet additional program criteria. Businesses with fewer than 100 employees and less than $6 million in annual revenue are encouraged to apply.
